Hey guys, recently cleaned the IAC motor on my ’95. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe only the 95 has this IAC motor, while the rest of the 1st Gen's have the IACV mounted on the Throttle Body.
1995 IAC Motor (The gigantic black thing off to the side of the TB) -
And for the rest of the 1st Gen's -

Step 1 – Remove air inlet hose (unscrew clamp at air box, and unscrew with flathead screwdriver at throttle body.)
Step 2 – Disconnect wire harness from IAC.
Step 3 – Remove 3 nuts from housing (5/16"), the bolts are very short, so be sure not to drop any of the nuts or washers. The top two nuts are fairly accessible, but for the bottom one you may have to work your hand down there to make sure you don’t drop the nut or washer.
Step 4 – Pull the IAC, and remove the bolts. (These are the same bolts you pulled the 5/16" nuts off of earlier.)
IAC Removed -
Step 5 – Carefully pull apart the IAC. Take apart from the top up, and inspect the motor. Inside you will see 3 gears, a washer the plunger/pintle thing and a spring at the very bottom. There will be carbon deposits everywhere. (As you can see)
Step 6 – I removed the 3 gears, plunger and spring and sprayed a rag with WD-40, then began scrubbing the deposits off. I was also careful to NOT clean off the 3 gears inside, as they had gear lube on them and I did not have any here at my house. There was not any buildup on the gears themselves either.
(Sorry, battery died on the camera, but you get the point.)
Step 7 - Once everything is clean, make sure everything is dry, reassemble and reinstall following the steps in reverse order.
When finished, make sure you do the Idle relearn procedure. Anytime you mess with the TB, IAC etc.; you should do it. I believe the procedure is as follows -
Turn key from off to run (DO NOT start), turn off wait 20 seconds, and repeat for a total of 3 times.
If anyone has anything to add, or any corrections please let me know. This is the first time I've ever cleaned an IAC, and even though it didn't correct my problems (listed in my introduction) it does idle alot smoother.
