That's too general of a description... when do you notice the knocking? i.e. what speeds, RPM, driving conditions, accelerating vs. cruising, etc. Any other symptoms or problems that go along with it? Could be as simple as the type of fuel you're using, or could be something more complicated - but we need to know more first.

first let us ask what grade of octane do you run?

a heavy knock is often associated with an engine problem. If you are encountering a heavy knock than try running a synthetic in the engine and see if it helps some. A light "ping" is often associated with what octane you run. While some of the auroras run fine on regular, others are so persnickity that they want and will drive properly only on premium.

its a knock not a ping. and the fuel is unleaded. and we cannot find a book on this car anyway. trying to avoid taking off the whole front end to fix.

if your not used to a DOHC then they will make a couple of sounds that will scare you a lil but some of them are normal. look on ebay for a shop manual or just keep asking us. id keep asking us.

That would be premium unleaded, right? There's a little reminder phrase under the gas gage. Or...is it a mechanical knocking while turning?
