Well my temp gauge was on the fritz...and the other's weren't doing so well either. I had pulled a cluster from a junk car with only 89k miles and had contemplated taking it in and having the miles rolled up to match my current mileage...but that was a $55 job. So what did i do? What any other crazy car nut would... Had to replace my dash pad...again. So i decided to fix the gauges and the DIC door spring issue i was having. Replacement parts. I kept the base from my cluster and just replaced the gauges 89k miles anyone? Mine is on the left. Notice the color difference for the fuel gauge? I didnt like the yellow so i didnt swap that one. Took the bulbs from the newer cluster and polished em up...before/after. Ta-da! Extra parts Any takers? Going once...going twice...garbage! lol

so what exactly was happening with your gauges? My fuel gauge is bouncy at startup, and the tach is "skippy"

Everytime I started my car up my temp gauge would spring up and bounce back and forth, then eventually settle at the current engine temp. Now it rises up more gracefully. My speedo and tach werent as bad but they were on the way out.

More than likely a wonky fuel gauge is malfunction in fuel level sender. It is resistance based. If the contacts get worn it will read wrong. You can pull the plug on the fuel pump and Ohm out the contacts. I don't know the resistances by heart but they can be found...
