took a trip to michigan speed way last week with my two sons, they decided to see what the aurora would do wot. used gps to clock speed, first son got 141mph, then traffic got to heavy, once we hit i275 my other son hit 148.3mph again backed off for traffic. heat gauge started climbing so we pulled into service area, after checking fluid fans and what not found that the air shroud had colapsed and was blocking the rad. pulled it back into place and continued on home with no more issues. only mods that i have done are air box and k&n, replaced wires and plugs cleaned t.b. before trip, my guess is previous owner had govenor removed. car handled well at top speed no vibrations, and after watching the cup race where the top speeds were 138mph do you realize how fast we were going. i wouldnt try is again unless i knew i was the only car on the road.

Well, the Classic is "supposed" to be governed to 140 mph (Autobahn only). Perhaps the GPS was a bit off?

i agree by the time we got home both boys added alot more grey hairs too my 56 year old head. the gps matched the speedo at 100,120,and at 130. maybe the satellite couldnt keep up to the aurora.

I have always thought that all Auroras are capable of much more top end than what the PCM limits them to.

Maybe GM figured people wont want to pay for Z-rated performance tires and then have to by appropriate winter radials.
140mph (V-rated) is pretty high speed already. Gotta draw the line somewhere. Most cars these days can handle high rates of speed, but are limited by tire technology.

yes there was still more get up and go. I should mention that my son lived in Europe for several years and is quite used to driving at these speeds on the autobahn, and i would have felt better if the aurora had a roll cage and hanns device. lol

Rustycar.......when you say "hanns" device, are you referring to the Head And Neck Stabilizer used in NASCAR?

yes marc thats what i meant, you see how mangled a nascar is after wrecking at these speeds, and the driver usually walks away unhurt. anyways i will never try maxing out again been there got the tshirt.

My 98 Autobahn hit a GPS certified 143.2 a while back here in NC on I485. Had a bit more to go but the computer started pulling timing. Had some weird lunging goin on with the computer allowing it to get up there and then pulling back so there was plenty left.
