Im not kidding ;D
Well I had a laundry list of things I wanted to get done to the Aurora last weekend and I think I hit just about all of em.
Had the carpet and panel behind the back seats cleaned on Friday morning, which turned out very well. After that I took it to the tint shop and had 30% put on all but the windshield. That also turned out well but it took many hours to get the remnants of the old tint off the 'dot' area of the back window. Then Friday night I took out the remainder of the trim that surrounds the carpet. During the late hours of the evening I cleaned up my replacement non-riveted center console, tore apart and rebuilt the lid vent, and tinkered with a few other parts that I had as replacements.
Saturday morning was pretty much dynamat and cleaning. Pulled the carpet and discovered two things; there was a critter of some sort in the vehicle at one time, and the floor had rusted quite a bit behind the pass seat. So I cleaned it up, dried it out, and started putting the dynamat in. That took about 2 hours total, and I had exactly enough to do from the firewall (and on the firewall) all the way back to the trunk, I even had a little more to finish the rear quarter panel (ran out when I did the trunk).
Once the Dynamat was done I put the carpet back it, re-installed the 'new' center console, and then put in the seats and floor trim. I had also replaced (a couple weekends before) the DIC faceplate which caused me to crack the dash, and tore apart/cleaned/reassembled the air vents just below. After that I started with the cleaning, which took about three and a half hours and four boxes of heavy duty magic erasers. I couldn’t believe how much dirt was set into everything, especially the leather panels on the doos.
Once I buttoned everything up it was on to the auto parts store to get some bulbs and the pick-n-pull to get an interior drivers side door handle surround. Fortunately I was able to get the bulbs I needed, and though I didn’t find the piece for the door panel I found something much much better. Came out of a 96 that was in very rough shape; console was trashed and moldy, seats were all foam, carpet was practically black, etc...and yet the dash was flawless.
Swapped out and cleaned up the dash piece in about 15 minutes, and managed to not crack it this time around. While I was at it i took some Meguiars PlastX to the instrument cluster cover and it took away just about every scratch. I then replaced the bulb for the orange gear selector light, the third brake light, and the center console bin. I also rewired the power shift connection, though thanks to a P0741 code I can’t tell how well it works because there’s a large lack of power in general.
So yeah, got pretty much every nuance taken care of and I am finally feelin like it's my ride. Next steps will be dynamat on the doors, new speakers, new fabric on the pillars and headliner, cleaning of the door vents, and replacing the front seats with the ones that have been sitting in my living room for a month. Haha.
On to the pics:
Broken cup holder and old console
New
Broken rear vents
Little super glue and spare pieces
Fixed!
Screw in DIC (you can see a screw on the side of the console too)
New dash piece (you can imagine what the old looked like)
Rivet in Console
Gone!
Missing light
Dirty package tray
Bad tint
Cleaned up
Dirty carpet
Better…but the new floor mats cover up the stains that wont come out
Bad seatbelt
Replaced
Critter bits
Rust!
Dynamat down
Moldy Trunk
Dynamatted (phone camera)
After: its done, camera died when I went to take a shot.
Whew!
