aurorah.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=reviews&action=display&thread=21400Welp, got the kit in today. and it came out looking good i must say! adds a elegant look to an all ready great design(LOL) oldsmobile missed a little on the console match ;Dafter test fitting every thing first, the only mod i had to make was a little notch. so the rear arm lid would latch properly.before, after.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------looked ok without the HVAC piece, but i put it on still. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------i trimmed the xm-radio with a cut out from the extra piece. thank's for looking

Looks great! Now all you need is a wooden shift handle off an old STS.

It really looks nice! That's real wood or imitation? I think I'd leave the shift handle as it is now though - plastic looks worse than wood, but leather matches it just perfectly IMO.

Looks great man! ;D Way to spruce up the interior. What's the little oval on the right side of center where a passengers left leg would be?

Originally it also was synthetic, right? And it's the same with the classic? It's funny because almost every person, selling an Aurora in Poland writes "interior finished in peanut [edit: or walnut - not sure about the english word...] wood" in their ad . Dunno how they figure it...

On the 2G aurora (such as the one in the pictures) the wood is real.
I think it looks good. some pieces I'm not sure i'd install (definitely not the ring around the ignition key) if I were to get the kit.
My main concern would be how durable is this synthetic stuff. Anybody installed a dash kit some years back? Faded any? cracked any?

Aha! I didn't know that. Now you made me curious, because some time ago I had a ride in a '93 Fleetwood Brougham and was told the wood in it isn't real. So if the biggest and most representative GM car doesn't have real wood, why would they put it in a smaller one? Or maybe the Caddy's wood also was real?

"Originally it also was synthetic, right? And it's the same with the classic?"right,it's not real wood from the factory! i've busted a console at a boneyard, and it's all positively plastic. "What's the little oval on the right side of center where a passengers left leg would be?"12v power port. thats where i spliced into, for the XM and GPS (it's on the 10min power retention thingy) thought you were talking about the carpet, at first.......lol thats just a red and black permanent "sharpie" bytheway came out kindof nice i think ;D "some pieces I'm not sure i'd install (definitely not the ring around the ignition key)"why not? i think it's one of my favorite's, that and the shift overlay. "Looking good, nice job."thanks

I think it came out looking sweet! It looks like you spent a pretty penny to update the interior Too bad Oldsmobile isn't still making these.... they could take a design idea from you! I'd be in line for this one if I still had my classic. Thanks for sharing - you did a fantastic job!!

I feel like having the sporadic piece of woodgrain throughout the dash negates the idea of it looking "Classy" or being luxurious. I mean, yeah, in bulk, woodgrain looks beautiful, but used as tiny accent pieces scattered throughout your whole interior?
Seems as ricey as spray-painting it bright red to me. :-\
It's too bad that it doesn't match though, I think having the whole center console wood-grained up would be killer, I would do that in a heartbeat. But, not if it's not going to match perfectly.
Sorry to be a downer, just not really feeling it overall.

"It's too bad that it doesn't match though, I think having the whole center console wood-grained up would be killer, I would do that in a heartbeat. But, not if it's not going to match perfectly." tpunk, that first pic shows how different those two factory pieces are, nothing i could do about that ;D but have a closer look at the main piece. i posted this on the other thread, this starts in to show how well it's matched up with the factory wood (well, all but that one factory piece .........LOL) (if everyone all liked the same categorical things in life, it would be a pretty boring world we'ed live in)
