Air Cleaner and Resonator Channel ?
« Thread Started on Nov 7, 2009, 10:45pm »

have a couple of questions.

I took the Air Cleaner assembly apart tonight (I am thinking about getting a K&N filter tomorrow so wanted to see what I was dealing with).

Can someone explain in plain terms what purpose the resonator channel serves (attached to the air intake duct)?

Also I noticed the mesh in the air intake duct (towards the engine has some small particles on it (should I try to vacuum that out or blow out with pressure hose (I'm leaning to vacuum if I can find one ;D so as not to push any particles into the engine through the mesh)?

Also, the manual mentions a hose attached to the resonator channel, ROARA does not appear to have one, what purpose is the hose and where does it attach (if you have a 1997 Classic owners manual see pg 6-15)?

Don't know if anyone saw my other question about the air filter but I am thinking about just replacing the filter with a K&N. Anyone with a Classic know if this is just a waste of money or if there is a real return with increased hp/mpg/acceleration?

The resonator channel reduces intake noise.

Vacuum the mesh, don't push the crap through. It got stuck there for a reason.

There is no hose there on the '97 model. If I am not mistaken that was a '95 only thing.

not sure what search I used but finally found a thread that suggested the K&N was not better than an ACDelco paper filter (like the manual says to use). So I guess I will not be getting a new K&N w/o hearing first hand experiences from Classic Aurora owners that put K&N drop in filter to replace ACDelco.

How do you kow if it is time to replace the ACDelco airfilter? I have3 no idea how long it has been in the car.

If you have no idea how long it's been in the car that means it's time to change it....

based on your sig looks like you are running your 99 Classic w/ K&N and you believe hp/mpg/accel has been improved in your Aurora? How much improvement would you say can be attributed to the K&N filter alone? After reading that article that compared various filters (including K&N) it seemed not to be an improvement (I am talking about just a K&N filter to replace ACDelco stock filter, not a modded airbox).

I have a K&N and can't really tell much difference, if any.

1 of K&N selling points is it's longevity. You know never having to buy another filter, just clean and reoil. Another thing to look at beside HP gain is how often you have to buy a new paper filter and the cost each time vs. 1 K&N.
