OK.....Only do this if the motor still works. Be sure to test for bad relay, connection, etc. etc.
Tools needed:
3/8 Ratchet
10mm Deep-well socket
14mm wrench (12 pt closed end will be used)
A few rags
Lithium Grease
Cordless Drill
1/16 drill bit
11/32 drill bit
BIC lighter
Small punch
Heavy duty Weed-Eater String (i know what your thinking but it works) ;D
1: Pop the trunk lol sorry
2: Remove carpeted cover from trunk bay (make sure antenna is retracted or just be careful if it will not move)
3: Unplug Electrical plugs (yes both)
4: Unbolt 10mm brace on the car end-not the antenna end-
5: Use the 14mm closed end wrench on the antenna head and pull out antenna carefully
6: Pull down on the motor (you may need to wiggle it a bit out of the rubber grommet)
7: Put motor to the side and focus on the antenna
8: Unscrew the cap nut on the tip of the antenna
9: Take the top antenna piece out
10: Cut the cord flush with the end of the antenna and melt the excess out with the lighter and clean hole with a dental pick.
11: Clean off the end and get the drill....this is tricky
12: Use the 1/16th drill bit to drill out the nipples on the connector
13: Cut a fresh end on the Weed-Eater String and insert to antenna
14: Use the punch to re-dimple the dimples ;D
15: Back to the motor....Use the 11/32nds bit to drill the rivets out
16: Remove clips on the outer edges of the motor
17: Carefully pull motor apart (watch where everything is)
18: Careful not to move the stopping gear...pull the cord wind-up gear out.
19: Fish out the end of the cord...repeat the cutoff and meltdown from step 10
20: Repeat step 12
21: Cut off enough string to allow for excess
22: Put antenna back together then measure for amount of string needed with the antenna extended in the mast (cut to the measurement) better to have too much than not enough!!!
23: Repeat step 13 & 14
24: Coil the string back up on the gear and insert into motor
25: Coat the string with lithium grease upon install
26: Put motor back together carefully (make sure the actual motor has not moved during the repair)
27: Return clips to the outer edge of the motor. If no rivet gun is available...use small bolts to replace the rivets
28: Time for a test...If test proves worthy then reverse removal for install. If test proves a fail then.......sorry
Upon installation....Run 5-6 test cycles. If all cycles are a pass then enjoy your cheap but time consuming repair.
Did not take too many photos of the repair but will edit later with what i did get.
