It looks like the "frayed wiring in the door" threads are popping up more frequently. Since most of our cars will be starting to show their age soon (mine sure is), a little bit of preventative maintenance can save time later.
A couple weeks ago, all of my power windows stopped working - out of the blue it seemed. I managed to trace the problem down to the wires running through the rubber conduit between the driver's side door and the chassis. After inspecting the electrical diagrams, you realize how many different functions go thru there...all the seat controls, the window controls, the mirror controls, etc...it's a lot of stuff. The easy fix was to strip and re-crimp the wires back together, then I added a good wrapping of electrical tape to keep the bundle of wires together. It looked like the whole mess was originally wrapped in electrical tape, but time and the elements basically destroyed it. The other three doors have a similar treatment with the tape.
The next time you guys and gals are detailing your cars, grab a roll of electrical tape and re-bind those wires inside the conduits. Just peel back the grommet on the door side, and you can push most of the tube into the larger hole in the chassis until you are done. After the wires are wrapped, they retract back into the chassis instead of bending in half and eventually breaking from fatigue again.

Thanks, I had one broken wire for the heated seats. I am glad I got to it before anything else broke. Tight quarters for splicing wires.

Very wise, indeed. After hearing the overwhelming amount of problems that have resulted from broken door wiring, I think I'll be doing this soon too. I'd certainly rather spend the 15 minutes on preventative maintenance than the 5 hours tracing down and fixing a problem Thanks Omegaic... -Shawn

Huh, my passenger side heated seat hasn't worked since I bought my Aurora, but the door switch still lights up. I think I know what I'll be checking & reinforcing soon! skifast, what color was your heated seat wire?
