I didn't know if anyone else had wondered about this, but I had been considering it for a while. Earlier when I was picking up a door at the junkyard(another whole story), I ran across a homelink module in my interior color. Putting it on ended up being relatively easy, so I figured I'd give a quick writeup. Sorry, I didn't take pictures.
First off you need to remove your old dome light assembly. I accomplished this by opening the sunroof, pulling down the liner a little, and unsnapping the back clips from behind the liner. I then removed the light cover and light assembly. After that, I could see the clip holding the bezel on the front. By pushing the entire assembly forward and pulling back on the black part that holds it up, I got it to release. I then disconnected all of the wires and unclipped the sunroof switch. After that, I pulled the old garage door opener cover(it just slid out) and ran the homelink wires up through the same hole. I didn't really feel like soldering, so I just spliced the wires in at the connectors. The orange wire from the homelink assembly needs to connect to the orange on the passenger side light. I pulled back the rubber insulator around the connector that attaches to the light, wrapped my wire around the connector, then taped it together and slid the rubber back over. For the black, I removed the plastic piece that holds the wires into the passenger side light switch and backed the black one(middle one) out some. I put the homelink wire right next to it and wrapped them with a very small piece of electrical tape. I then put those wires and the plastic piece back into the switch. From there it was pretty easy. The homelink assembly needs to be clipped into your bezel, and then you just reverse the process.

Wait, your Aurora did not have a HOMELINK already? I would of thought that all Classics nad 2nd Gen Auroras had Homelink systems in them form the factory.
None the less nice job, now you can hook up a lamp in your living room to it as well.

My classic doesn't have homelink. What exactly does homelink do?

My classic doesn't have homelink. What exactly does homelink do? It's a cool feature that can be programmed to control 3 different radio-operated devices. Garage door openers are the most common use, but household electronics (such as lights) can be plugged into remote power sockets and turned on the same way. If you have the feature, the three buttons are above your head by the two front map lights: I have three different garage doors programmed into mine... my own, my parents house, and my in-laws house. P.S. Nice writeup.. I added it to the Maintenance sticky in this forum.

Nice, my 95 was rolling w/homelink as well. Yea, 95s/96s didn't come factory that way. Also, you'll want to get a one from a 98/99 Aurora. 97's were the older tech and aren't compatible with rolling code remotes (pretty much every garage opener is now). You can tell the difference between the two in that the one scotty posted has the house around the led, next to the buttons and the 97 only has an led.

How would you go about programming it though? Im about to go to the junkyard for some radio knobs and stuff and Im going to look out for one. Did they come on any other cars that would work on the Aurora?

Great...you think if I draw a house around mine it will still work? Our opener now isn't a rolling code...the thing has been there for about 20 years since the house was built and is still going fine.

Yea, I found that out when I moved into the house up here at college, no rolling codes.

96s do have homelink but not rolling code The easy way to tell if its got rolling code(97+) is it will have a little house symbol.

So if you have that little bin that holds the garage door opener, you can still put that Homelink up there in its place and it will work? Are there any wires or extra things you need to install it on an Aurora that don't have it?

Yes, you can. Read the first post. You don't have to install any new wires, just splice into the power up there for the lights.

If you have a 96/97 then you have the opener but it doesn't support rolling codes. If you get an opener from a 98/99 (be sure that has the little house icon around the LED) then you can swap it right in. It took me about 5 minutes to swap my standard opener for a homelink one; it's just plug and play. Now I can open garages with rolling codes!

I have a 97 with homelink and it has the little house around the LED. I know it could be swapped out by a previous owner but in the 97 owners manual it explains how to program the homelink with a rolling code garage door opener. So some 97 auroras do have the rolling code feature.

You can program more than garage doors? I always ignored those buttons but now that I know you can program other items… well that just changes everything.
