 Shaved door locks.
« Thread Started on Oct 20, 2009, 7:59am »

Just a thought of something I am trying in the future, I am thinking about removing the front door locks. :) I saw a Buick yesterday and it had our style of handles, but it had no front locks. I thought I could use it off of one of those, or try to use the back handles off of an Aurora and move them to the front. I know I wouldn't be able to unlock my car if the battery died, but that is ok by me. I can work around that. If anyone wants to try this before me, feel free. :)

i doubt there will be any takers bud. no one wants to possibly damage their only aurora. you have plenty around to practice on though. but after yesterdays discussion it looks fairy simple. then again, anything aurora usually ends up more hassle than first thought. it will look pretty cool but most folks won't ever notice it ya know. kinda like clear corners. they look factory & only an aurora enthusiast would notice. i think you would be the first, so i say do it! just went out & measured the handles. front & rear are the same size 3 x 6.25" so it was just an illusion that the fronts are fatter. so far so good....so what! 8-)

I would do it if it weren't for the whole "you wouldn't be able to get into your car with a dead battery" thing. Sounds like a cool mod tho, it should look good.

If the battery did die, it is pretty easy to pop the hood from under the front of the car. Then you could jump it to unlock the doors. If that didn't work I would just break the window out.

Shaved door handles would make it look more curvacious (sp) IMO but useless if its your daily with kids.

i thought of doing this when i broke my drivers side door handle during the winter... pulled it to hard and broke something inside off, anyway, i thought about taking the back door handle off and put it on the front till i got a new one.. didnt think it would fit though.. i know now and might do this shaved door locks too. i think it would look really good!

think i would run a jump post up under all the plastic in the front of the car, you can buy nice weather proof jump post. we use to use them in our old drag car.

For my shaved handles I just use the Amp's power wire in the trunk. Battery dies, I connect it to 12V and pop the doors and jump as needed, just an idea.

I have a handle like you're talking about without the lock hole on it. Passenger side, you can have it if you pay shipping!

But shaving them off all the way would be rad ;)

I have a friend with a body shop... I've always wanted to shave them all the way off. Never had the time to do it. :-/
