Just a thought - I wonder if there's a way to have the trunk "spring open" like some modern vehicles. Would that ruin the "authenticity"?

I need to try this on my gen 2.
can't get one of the screws out. the torx screw is now just round hole.

...the torx screw is now just round hole. Cut a slot across the head with a Dremel, remove with a large flathead screwdriver. Can't really do this fix on '01+ though, 2G design is a little different than Classic.

An elegantly simple solution. I frequently have to punch the button on the dash repeatedly to get the latch to release, but once it does it pops open about an inch. I really had a time getting it open yesterday when I put gas in it for the first time since May!
