Toronado -
Aurora -
I can see some of it but you wouldn't have many people look at both the Aurora and the Toronado and say "Hey, it is just a newer version". The trunk line is very similar, the way the window slopes down and becomes the trunk lid. Other than that I do not see many other similar lines. It's wheel wells stick out but not like the Aurora's.
This is a similar case with the Caprice Classic. The newer model is no longer produced in America, but if you looked at the two you wouldn't connect the dots. The only real standout I can see by looking at these two is the way the side windows go to a point back by the trunk.

I would not call the Aurora a continuation of the Toronado but it did take the place of Oldsmobiles top offering.

Maybe he is referring to the outgoing toronado not the older one pictured

I think you're talking really about marketing, aiming toward a certain demographic, filling a hole in GM's offerings, etc. It is not so much as "continuation" but moreso filling a spot in GM's offering that was left void by the absence of the Toronado. It is not as close of a relationship as your original post seems to imply.
In terms of "Replaced the Oldsmobile Toronado in MY 1995," I would disagree with this statement. It is not as straightforward as that.

re: original Toro vs Classic, muscular shoulders, aerodynamic nose, full length taillight lense, front wheel drive...I think Olds definately looked "back" when designing the Classic.

David North, the fellow who designed the Toronado, also did (before he retired at GM), the "Classic" Aurora as well. It is not sercet that the 1st generation Toronado, lookes very similar to the Classic Aurora, because of Mr. North's style.
I can not understate why you AURORA fans, have not joined the Toronado Owners Assication ($30/year)? This club is open to all 1966-1992 Toronados and ALL Auroras . Here is the link: http://www.toronado.org/Members/main.php
Former 1995 Aurora owner, will swap 1985 Buick Riveria for 1996-1999 Aurora (even trade) Toroman: Able to pass cars and trucks with a single press of the gas pedal !! Faster than EX-President Bill Clinton changes his mind!!!! More powerful than a sexual harassment law suit!
In the end the only reason the ACNA exists is to fix, and enhance auroras. To look down on the people who serve this main goal is to look down on the ACNA itself. Politics, standard of living, race.... the rora transcends all of those things. A mere machine can do what its creators can not do, bring people together. To that end i will work tirelessly to keep my rora on the road.

Hello; I am new to this forum and late to this thread. I don't know really how much if any of the Toro styling was incorporated into our Auroras. The original version was to be released by Cadillac division. This also is a little known fact. I have the original media release package announcing the new Aurora by Cadillac It was my understanding that the Aurora started as a Cadillac concept that was awarded by G.M. to Odsmobile to bolster sagging sales within the division. That may explain the lack of Oldsmobile identifacation anywhere except on the radio.
