How to care for leather seats?

ok well when I picked up my classic I had REALLY rough seats, I took a whole day and I'll run through my process with you

step 1. With a Mr. Clean magic eraser I scrubbed the crap out of my seats to get the set dirt out, seing as thats not an issue than I dont suggest doing it.

Step 2. Get meguires gold class leather conditioner. Now I am rigerous with my conditioning schedule, come hell or highwater I condition my leather once a week. Get the PASTE the wipes dont do diddly squat.

step 3. your first time conditioning will be the worst, a little does NOT go along way the first time, my seats drank it up like no tomorrow. Now be very liberal with the stuff and put a good amount on a terry cloth rag. Start in one spot and work your way out from that spot. Now being the seats probable first time be rough, use force when applying it, and by force I mean body weight being put into the rag. Do it in circular motions. If it only takes you 15 minutes to condition the leather the first time, you didnt work hard enough, go over the seats again with the conditioner. This will leave sort of a glaze over the seats and entry into the car can be hazardous to your health, you are guranteed to slide out of your seat when going around a turn for the first few miles.

step 4. Continue with your regiment, I suggest atleast once every two weeks. But NOW a little does go a long way and you need not apply much force.

You do not neccessarily have to go with meguires products, but I love all of their interior detailing products...just AVOID armorall leather cleaner. It is a cleaner, not a conditioner and it dries out the leather (personal experience)

I guess I made the process sound harder than what it really is, but your toosh and your seats will thankyou in the long run, I just wish I could have gotten to mine before the original owner did.

i scrubbed too hard with saddle soap and took the color off in a place.

LEXOL is the best. A lot of hard work but every second is worth it after you are done. The leather turns out as new and it fixes all the cracks.

from what Ive heard lexol is a great product, just a little pricey

Does lexol beat out the meguires gold class leather conditioner that many here recommend?

Is lexol one that can be purchased from places other than the actual company? Any chance I'd find this one at Auto Zone?

I have found lexol products at the local shoe repair place and the upholstery shop

Leather Masters makes great products and they are water-based ... perfect for our coated leather. They are not cheap, but they are worth it.

Today I used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and Turtle Wax Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. I have never seen my seats so clean. I did not think they were that dirty. Have see if I got any decent photos.

I also used the magic eraser and black magic interior cleaner on the rest of the interior and it was grimy too. I thought she was all clean too before hand. It was surprising.

Hopefully, you can the tell the difference. As I said they were not that dirty but enough to see a noticable difference to the naked eye. In this picture I stopped using the magic eraser and leather cleaner/conditioner at the stitching closest to the left. So, left side to stitching clean, right side dirty...

I agree with the other posters Lexol is the best. After finishing the seats are very nice to sit on.

I do a lot of Mobile detailing and after trying the lexol I bought 3 liters of both. I have done about 18 leather jobs with them I'm still well over 3/4s.

This stuff works awesome. It returns the leather to its natural feel and is not greasy. Meguires gold class leather conditioner does not do anywhere near as good of a job as lexol and makes the seats too slippery, it also doesn't last as long
