The OnStar FMV mirror as installed in my 2001. It has a speaker on the driver's side. Despite being small, it is good & loud! I had to turn down the volume. It can be loud enough to the point of distortion. The GPS antenna can be seen right below the mount that is glued to the windshield. There is no auto dimming, so you have to adjust the mirror down with the small lever on the bottom. It also has Bluetooth. The only features that it does not have compared to the factory Onstar are door unlocking & engine diagnostics................................................................. The microphone. It attaches to the mirror wiring harness with a plug. I mounted it on a small piece of 1/32" aluminum sheeting & slid that underneath the visor mirror spring..........................

Looks great, Marc! I thought about doing this to mine for a while. Still might do it someday if I have the time!

xjsman89.......Thanks! BTW, Onstar FMV mirrors are starting to show up on ebay for much less than new now.

Marc, was your Aurora already equipped with OnStar or did you have to figure out how to wire it in? My '01 does not appear to have OnStar capabilities.
Also, as for the speaker, is there a line-in port for hooking up an auxiliary device? I was thinking I could use the speaker for my ham radio if it did.

n3wpv......my Aurora did not have factory Onstar. I always wanted it, and when the Onstar FMV appeared, I grabbed it right away. Its wiring is very simple. there are 3 wires.....ignition, battery & ground. For the ignition & ground, I used the wires for the auto dimming mirror. I ran a wire for the battery connection from the battery to the headliner. The worst part of the project was removing the auto dimming mirror. I had to use a thin blade coping saw to cut through the glue holding the mount to the windshield. You could also use piano wire to do that. The shop manual said "pull the auto dimming mirror off the mount with a quick jerk". I thought that would crack the windshield. I wound up gluing the mount that came with the FMV mirror in place, and it then took me only about 1/2 hour more to have the mirror working OK. As for the HAM radio, you'd need a separate speaker for that.

Marc, that's good info. Thank you! Since I don't have an auto dimming mirror I'm assuming I'll have to run wires for ignition and ground also. Do you have a schematic or can you tell me which fuse locations under the rear seat are on the ignition circuit?

Items like power windows or the radio are on the ignition circuit. But there should be a wiring harness in the front console that has both battery and ignition connections. Another source for battery power would be the power seats.
