If you really want that showroom shine on the interior, you gotta put in the effort. The first step is to strip down the interior. Here you can see my car ready for a serious cleaning: Then you can take all those pieces over to the sink for a serious scrubbing...

wow, no replies... This was a joke, FYI. I took the dash apart to mount the GPS receiver, and thought I'd try to be clever. Guess I need to try harder next time!

You would have to be seriously anal retentive to go that far.
I have taken appliances apart before to clean them. But then I got a new steam cleaner and went a little overboard with it.

Aurora40 - You really got me on this one. (remember a few months back when I told everyone I even clean the backs of my tires and rims?) Of course I was serious.

Eh, but then you run the risk of dirtying the parts up when you put it back together. How worried were you about donking the bottom of the dash off the top of the steering wheel? Dunno why, but I'm always super worried about that happening.

Looks like work... But it should be clean after that :-) I clean my vent's & other nooks w/ q-tips and thought I was serious, I guess not anymore. On a side note... A DEAD PEDAL? I WANT A SECOND GEN!!!

Just took it slow. Actually it was easier to take out then to put back in. You could always tape the wheel with masking tape though to prevent any accidental scuffs. I probably should have just to be safe. On a side note... A DEAD PEDAL? I WANT A SECOND GEN!!! That's the parking brake...

Also, I can't believe how many of you thought I was serious! I guess that's a compliment to my obsessive cleanliness??

I had a 1977 Z28 Camaro that I once spent all day cleaning. I got to the point where I could not think of anything else to clean on it. I steam cleaned the engine, tranny, underbody, wheel wells, wheels/tires, washed, and waxed everything on the car. About the only time it could have been any cleaner is when it left the factory. I was working at my Dad's service station at the time and had a lift and everything I needed right there.

The dead pedal isn't really usable. I just ignore it, really. Sometimes it's useful, but really it's too far away, not upright enough. I've had better

I like my dead pedal a lot. 2nd Gen's isn't too bad, it's well within range for me though.

Mebby I'm a little behind the times. I see the area on the floor you all are talking about but what the heck is a dead pedal It's a place to put your left foot, generally raised out to be near even with the clutch pedal. If you think about your right foot, it's almost always on a pedal, the gas or brake. In a manual car, when your foot is not on the clutch, where do you put it? If you are still accelerating, you want it near the clutch. If there's nothing there, you kind of have to hover it yourself. A dead pedal alleviates that. In an automatic it really doesn't matter. You can just stretch your foot out like the passenger does. You won't need that foot while driving.

For whoever it was that was recently bashing Dodge Avengers, our old '96 Avenger had a dead pedal. My Aurora doesn't. So the Avenger must not have been ALL bad.

Another reason to use a dead pedal, besides resting your foot on, is making a hard turn, you have something to level yourself up so you don't have to hang on the steering wheel, I read about this somewhere, that is what racers use them for....

Nah, that's what you use the gas pedal for. Once you get it all the way to the floor you can brace against it on hard, sharp turns just as you would a dead pedal
