Hey guys, I bought a '95 last June with about 173,000 miles on it, and stumbled across this place on Google shortly after buying it......Great little community, with LOADS of great info! Anyways, I've had her about a year now, and am up to about 197,700. I've had a few problems here and there, but overall I'd say she runs GREAT considering how many miles it has. The last 6 months or so, I've been noticing a vibration through the gas pedal, only up to about 2000RPM. Once you get above that RPM range, it goes away. It's not very noticable until about 35-40MPH, but is an ANNOYING pain......Considering it runs at about 1800 RPM cruising at 60. My gas mileage is also down to about 17. I changed the spark plugs (just plugs, not wires) last week, hoping my mileage would go up and the vibration would atleast subside, but to no avail. I did realize when taking the plug out of the #7 cylinder, there was a substantial amount of oil in there, and some on the wire. Cleaned everything up as well as I could. My guess is the wire is shot, but they all looked alright besides that one....And, if it was a dead wire, wouldn't it be missing regardless of the RPM?? ALSO, when taking the wires off, one of the coil packs had a little bit of rust/corrosion (not ALOT, but I did take a metal brush to it to scrape it off.....) I know this is alot of information, but I figured I'd give all I could. I tried searching and didn't get anything that matched. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it! I want to keep this thing running as long as I possibly can

Welcome to ACNA! Great to learn of yet another another high-mileage 'rora still prowling the roads.
Regarding your vibration, I've been noticing a slight one though my gas pedal recently, too. I've been feeling it out and I'm leaning toward a tire or suspension issue. Pay attention to how the car takes bumps and curves, especially bumps in curves. Mine seems to be looser now than it has been and it feels like the cause may be in the rear. Maybe a tire is getting out of round or the shocks are worn, I'm not sure yet. I don't think it has anything to do with the engine or tranny since those are still smooth and my mileage hasn't decreased noticably.
Post an announcement when you cross 200K!

the gas pedal vibration (assuming that you dont feel it anywhere else) is the motor that controls the idle/cruise control. happens on mine too, regaurdless of speed (i could be parked and notice it if i reved the engine up to 2k) the idle motor needs to be cleaned. I will be doing this soon.

I shall look into that. Hopefully that's what it is, once I start working again I'll throw some new plug wires on and figure out what's going on with my radiator (it LOOKS like it's leaking from the top hose on the passenger side, except I can't get the shroud off because of one of the bolts) And alan442 - Will do, I'll make sure I have the camera with me when she rolls it over

Welcome postalc38 to ACNA!
I have a vibration from the gas pedal when I hit a pothole or sharp bump, weird.

follow the two accelerator cables (one from pedal, one from cruise servo on the passenger side of the motor. They will meet at the TB on two side-by-side pulleys, and they turn the butterfly valve (im sure you turned it while doing your cleaning!)
there will be a motor right there with a plunger sticking out of it. if you run the car, you can see the ends of those pulleys resting on that plunger, this is how the car controls the idle speed.

that rust spot seen in the second pic seems to be very common. I have one in the exact same spot on the other side of the car.

It must be a Michigan winter thing! I hate salt Thanks Chris, will look at it tomorrow and try to figure out how to get it cleaned and all.......Also noticed the pulley closest to the rear of the engine the plastic part is kinda loose (it wiggles slightly towards the nose of the car and firewall) so I'll have to tighten that up too somehow.

Could you take a pic of that pulley? Im kinda curious what it is and if it possibly needs to be done on my car

Alright, I had a busy A.M. this morning and I'm exhausted so I'm gonna hold off til tomorrow. I did take a picture of the pulley however, and a picture of what I believe is the IAC...........Because if this isn't it, I don't have a clue....... The plastic part of the pulley can be pushed by finger towards the firewall, and will slightly move, but doesn't seem to be effected when actually in use. IAC??? I think I'll do a write up of this once I actually get it done.........I know it's not a hard job or anything but I feel pretty stupid not being able to find it. hahaha.

That is the IAC. notice how the Throttle rests on it? Thats how the car controls the idle (genius right?)
That pulley, is that part of the throttle (does it have a throttle cable wrapped around it?) lol... I thought you were talking about a pulley for the serpentine belt...

Cleaned her up, and while she idles a heck of a lot better after (also did the idle relearn), the vibration is still slightly there. Not so bad under cruise though. I'm guessing it's onto the EGR. Will do that later this week.

did you actually take the idle motor apart?

Yeah, it's got the 3 gears inside which move the spintle/plunger in and out with the spring in the bottom.

you should do a write up on it. take pics and describe exactly what you did. the members here will love you for it! I have always wondered how to do it, but have never gotten around to actually doing it.

I took a few pictures (so I didn't jack anything up) and can take a few more and do a write up. I'll go out tomorrow and do it again so I can check and see if I can clean her up some more and get rid of the problem. Probably gonna take a look at the TB again tomorrow and take off some more of the grime that I didn't get to last time, and see if that helps too.

Posted in the Classic Maintenance section . Thanks again Chris! Next, onto the EGR, then my radiator, and whatever is broken in my RF Suspension; just realized the other day something is clunking, and I can feel it.....Guessing it's either the strut, sway bar or tie rod....:/

check the sway bar link, if its broken, then thats it. if its still attached, then i would bet money on the strut.

Just jacked the car up (I really didn't need to), stuck my head under and......... and once I got the wheel off (much better angle of course) This one's gonna have to wail til the next unemployment check.
