Greetings!
I am a brand new owner of a 1995 Olds Aurora that I picked up at an AUTO AUCTION! I couldn't believe it when I saw it advertised in the auction's flyer! This wasn't a Classic Car Auction mind you, this was a "A Local Car Dealership got a car that they don't want on their lot as a trade in" type auction. The car has just over 50,000 miles and appears to have been garaged for most if not all of it's life. There are a couple of small scrapes along the rear fenders and a small dent in the drivers side front fender. The car is champagne? (not sure if this is the right name) in color - it's sort of a pinkish gold. It appears to have the original tires, battery, and spare tire. It has a Delco radio with CD player and more switches and gadgets than I have ever seen on a car before.
We've (the car and I) have had a few problems already ... the fuel pump went out on the way home from the auction. To be expected from a car that has probably been sitting somewhere for maybe 8 to 10 years with old stale gasoline in the system. Once the pump was replaced, the car started and ran well, except for a bad miss, which was fixed with replacement of the plug wires and a tune up. The battery has bit the dust also (original equipment) there were no marks on the cables or caps to show any sign of replacement of the battery.
It is one beautiful example of superior Oldsmobile technology and one beautiful car! Like some other members that have posted here, I'm not sure how I'm going to afford to repair this car, the price of parts is ASTOUNDING! ... and I'm not rich.
As my nickname states I am from the upper reaches of Appalachia, the Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia area ... so the fact that this car has no sign of body or chassis rust after 15 years bodes well for my "It's been stored somewhere" theory. I'm still in the process of working out it's kinks from its long nap, but I think I will have one fine example of an Aurora when I'm done.
I've been reading the other posts on this website and wish to thank all of you other members for the pointers and tips about the Olds. (I had a heck of a time finding the battery!) I am very happy to be a member of your club and look forward to hearing from some or all of you.
With Best Regards; Hillbilly Willie
PS - I'll send along a photo when I have time to take a good one.
