Was wondering what the difference is between the 4.0 in the Olds and the 4.6 in the caddy is other than the bore of the motor. Would a 4.6 bolt up in the Aurora? There is no replacement for displacement. ;D And what parts on the caddy 4.6 work on the Olds 4.0? I really want to build a wicked car. . Thanks Tim

The external sizes of the 2 engines are the same. The Northstar engine could be put into the Aurora. But from what I have heard, the big part of that project would be reprogramming the Aurora PCM to run the Northstar V-8.

May lose some of the DIC features but its a good tradeoff for 25 to 50 more hp.

What about boaring the 4.0 to a 4.6 and using the 4.6 pistons? Still should get a few more ponies out of it..... I've been told the 4.6 has better cams in it also.... True or not.....

The 275hp 4.6L has the same cams as the 4.0L. The 300hp has different cams, and also less torque up to about 5,400 rpm than the 275hp 4.6. So in my opinion, the base cams are "better".
I think you'd have to resleeve the block, not bore it, but I'm not positive.

There are quite a few differences when you look at all the numbers... I hope this helps anyone that wants to know... Aurora 4.0 CAMSHAFT... Cadillac 4.6 VIN Y 275hp... Cadillac 4.6 VIN 9 300hp...

Borla, as in Borla exhaust components, put a 50 shot on his 96 aurora. I'm sure you could even go up to 75 without any problems. He did it the smart way though, and used a progressive system. Either doing it that way or putting a WOT switch would be the best idea for nitrous.

I have heard a few horror stories from doing this. Its not worth destroying your engine in one quick burst of speed. People have done it to thier Cadillac 4.6s cause its the only real speed mod you can do to make the car quicker but again N* head bolts cant really handle the stress amoung other concerns.

If I had the money, I'd take the Aurora and make it as beastly as possible. Of course, money would not be an option if I ever did it. Then again, I'm not a millionaire.

I wish I was Bill Gates.....crap forget rear wheel drive conversion make me a classic Aurora riding on a STS V underbody and interior. That would probably be the easiest. You'd just need to get the Aurora body fabricated to fit on the STS-V.
