SO, another horrible story from me I'm afraid. Yesterday around 4pm central time I was involved in an accident about a mile from my house. My girlfriend and I were on our way to dinner, I was in the left lane of a two lane street (two lanes in each direction) and going the speed limit (40mph). In the right lane there were a line of cars turning right into a car wash, obstructed by this line of cars was the idiot turning left out of the lot to go the opposite direction I was (he saw the cars turning right and I guess for some reason thought that meant both lanes were clear.) By the time I saw him and he saw me I was about 10ft away going 40mph. I cut the wheel right and slammed on the brakes, but unfortunately I was not able to avoid him. I mashed into the rear quarter of his car going about 30-35mph, the airbags deployed and I ended up over the curb on the right side of the road I was on and into a fire hydrant, he ended up spun 180 degrees and in the median. Luckily no cars or pedestrians were caught in the commotion. I wasn't able to make it out the door as the fender was pushed into it so I had to crawl out the window to evade the dust from the airbags. I walked away from the accident unscathed as did the guy who pulled in front of me, my girlfriend's knee is pretty banged up, she went to an urgent care center and is set to see an Orthopedic on Monday. Both he and I are insured with Progressive. Unfortunately, Flo didn't fare too well. I'm awaiting on the insurance adjuster to decide her fate, but as of now it doesn't look too good in my opinion His '00 Civix DX The fire hydrant Damage that I know of so far is; Windshield (shattered by passenger airbag) Rear-view mirror (airbag again) Drivers side fender possible drivers door (or just paint on it) Possible passenger fender Bumper drivers headlight (including the projector) drivers fog light hood both air bags passenger tire as far as I could see the radiator was ok, but I'm not 100% sure of it after the accident the horn stayed blaring for a good 3 minutes. The wreck was jarring enough to pop the vent trim out of the dash (the defrost vents) I'm just glad to be ok, I firmly believe that had I not reacted so quickly I would have for sure hit him in the driver door and this could have been a lot worse.

Glad you are both relatively unhurt.
The Rora....can be fixed, but much of it will be on your dime. You'll be north of $4,000 with used parts and every trick you can pull to keep the cost down. Most of the parts have gotten fairly reasonable...but you're going to need lots of parts.
I had a nearly identical accident happen right in front of me at a stop light - two left turn lanes on the side street and the lady in the Expedition ran the red light. I saw her not stopping and stayed put, the person in the lane to my right pulled out with the green light and got the exact T-bone you did to that green car.

That is HARSH! I'm glad no one was seriously hurt. Outward appearances look pretty good, goes to show how strong the framework is. Keep us posted. I hate those situations when one lane is slow or stopped, its so risky, especially when the car in the front is waving somebody out, "go ahead" That might have been what happened. We have a 40mph two-lane road with cross streets with stop signs and I've seen older folks taking lefts, waving the person at the stop sign to go ahead. DON'T DO THAT! It will cause a crash.

There's gotta be frame damage here of some sort Neal. Good thing is you could have a parts car, or Upgrade to 2g!

Yeah that was about a 6" or so curb that I went over as well so who knows what kind of damage there could be underbody. From what I heard so far and my own personal opinion she's a total loss, we shall see what the future holds, I wait till monday for the verdict.

Terrible . Lucky you did you so well from this terrible accident which is the most important even if you have a heart for the car. Aurora is a powerfully built car and with the help of the air bags, she is even safer. Take one thing at a time now and go back on the road as soon as possible so the fear will disappear. I got a Mercedes SUV in the side of my previous Volvo V70. Took me a long time to trust others in the traffic after that. I could drive to the garage, but the SUV, which was worth three times more, got to go with a tow truck. Take care of both of you now.

I almost cried when you sent me that first picture. So sad! I'm glad you guys are ok though, it might have been a different story if you were in the Saturn instead.
Best of luck with the insurance company! You've gotta promise that no matter what happens you'll still stick around ACNA. ;D It wouldn't be the same without you, Rob!

Sucks! Stupid Honda! Was it scary when the air bags came out? Did they hit you? I have always wondered what that's like.

I think the scariest part of the bags is the fact that they came out at all (when I saw them I was surprised that they came out haha) I don't think it hit me because I don't remember feeling them and I had no rashes or red marks or after-feeling from it. The worst part of them is the dust or powder that comes out of them, it chokes you very badly making it almost impossible to breathe. like I said, I tried to get out the door right away and couldn't get it open so had to roll down the window and crawl out As of today I'm still awaiting a call from the insurance on her fate. They did hint at the fact that it was probably totaled, and asked if I would want to buy it back if it was. I told them I wasn't sure and it would all depend on the cost to fix it. Pricing out the parts I need at the pick'n'pull (and those are obviously used and probably not perfect parts) and for a new projector headlight, I'm up over $500. Thats without paint and anything else I would need. And, even though I would absolutely LOVE fixing her (for both the fact of getting her back and well, the fun it would be fixing her haha) I have really no place to keep her in the process. If I had a place to keep her for free it wouldn't even be a question of keeping her or not. I'll keep everyone posted on progress

Randy has a shop in MO! Problem solved. ;D
I'm sure your parents would understand, couldn't you use their driveway or something? It would only take a couple weeks to swap parts!

I am sorry for you loss. Good luck with the insurance. My first insurance claim was against a Geico policy holder and at that time I thought Geico was horrible... but later on I realized Geico is doing pretty good compared to most other companies out there, big or small....... Meeting the state insurance commissioner next week and probably I'll ask some questions....
Did you by chance wearing glasses or contact? I have always been concerned about possible injuries to the eyes when the airbag deploys.

I wear contacts, didn't seem to bother my eyes. The car is totaled the adjuster is coming tomorrow to work out pricing with me. Sorry to hear that. Now...it's YOUR car. YOU set a value. It was quite nice looking in mostly tip-top shape. First pass by the adjuster will be to give you a comp of 'runs good' for about 1/2 of what you think the car is worth. Double or triple that number and you keep the car to anchor your end of the negotiation. They can't stop until you BOTH agree on a number. You can push it as long as you want, but be prepared to back it up with numbers. They are paying storage and want to settle yesterday. You don't care - they are paying the storage fees. I'm thinking about 4 grand and you keep the car is a decent place to settle. 5 grand if they keep it. Use the argument that you need to replace it with 'like' quality and condition, not some cheap-arse beater that has been abused. Happy negotiating...

We ended up at $4103 which was actually more than I expected for it, I don't think I will be keeping it though . Still haven't decided what I'm doing for a replacement looking at Auroras and also checked out a Bonneville GXP today although that might be a little over my budget haha

Still haven't decided what I'm doing for a replacement looking at Auroras and also checked out a Bonneville GXP today although that might be a little over my budget haha That's not bad, I doubt I could get that much for mine. Did they give you the option of buying it back at all? It's sad to see it go! I would check your policy... Sara works in total loss in farmers and on most policies they only pay for 10-15 days of storage. I would just give them a call and make sure that if it takes longer than that you won't have to pay storage fees for the car. They may not let you buy it back either. But they price your car based on private party values for other Auroras in your area... over 4K for a 99 isn't bad I would say. Arguing for the sake of arguing doesn't do anything, Sara tells me that every day haha. It just angers the person writing you the check, which is never a good thing. lol. Best of luck, man! I hope you find a worthy replacement!

The Auroras in my area are all....bleh haha, if I get another one, I want one thats the way I want it haha, low miles and in a color I like. I check every car site I can think of just about every day for a good one haha. I'm also looking at cars with similar features, like Bonneville GXP's. Theres also an 02 300M special that I have my eye on that looks to be in the lead for possible replacement right now haha Dark Blue pearl, 42k miles leather power heated memory seats, sunroof, 11speaker 4 disc cd player, 255Hp v6, 18 inch wheels, factory HID projectors ;D
