If your expecting the trunk to actually pop up when you hit the button, it won't, our trunks are insanely heavy. Or atleast mine never did before the shock/strut broke off at the bottom. If you want easy access to the trunk and don't have anything valuable back there, when you close it don't let it slam, just rest it down. It's heavy enough where it won't go anywhere.

At the Aurora meet way back when some popped some didnt. My 96 did not pop up but I think Christines did so who knows. The trunks not any heavier than the one on my Towncar and it pops no problem. My STS does not pop up either. Spring tension and gas pressure is the key to it popping up.

Check for water in the center reflector panel. A trunk lid that's "insanely heavy" sounds a bit off. My old 95 had about a gallon caught in there. I actually couldn't tell because the water line was to the top. Pulled the rubber end piece and drill a drain hole.
Bought a new panel off ebay, and after that the trunk popped about 1/4 of the way.

my trunk just pops about an 1/4 inch up, just enough to lift it up i guesss it all depends on how much the trunk was popped during the life of the car, if it was used alot, then the popper would be a bit 'tired' and not work so well

My trunk has always popped up about 1/2 inch upon pressing the button. Could be a strut issue with them being weak.

Mine unlocks and opens just an inch or two. That is what my Aurora did the whole time I owned it. My STS on the other hand pops all the way open with authority.

They will not open automatically, but there is a spring that is supposed to pop it open enough to get your hand in easy. Most of these springs fail and people don't even know it. The spring is right above your key area, it is a black plastic piece.

I can honestly say that the trunk popping up is dangerous. While shopping at a strip mall I have accidentally pushed the button in my pockets and came out to find my trunk wide open for the world to see inside. Just my $0.02.

my moms old lumina had the most powerful popping trunk ever, you could put a full soda on there and hit the pop button and just watch it sore over the car and land in front of it. kinda cool to watch

Mine pops up enough to slip my fingers in... I wouldn't be happy if it was any more than that.

If it's colder than 80f outside mine pops just an inch or so, but if it's over 80f it opens all the way most of the time.

Mine just opens enough to stick my fingers under and open it the rest of the way. Never has it (that I have seen atleast) open completely or any further than that. I have seen some cars that are like catapults when you open them as Zach mentioned. My struts have no problems keeping the trunk open for an extended period of time. I would not want the trunk opening anymore than it does right now when I press the button anyhow.

On the 95 Roarah mine opens just enough for you to lift it up with your fingers so the wind dont take the trunk door right up in the air. Now on my 01 Roarah you press the trunk button and pops/bong goes the trunk lid up in the air just a flappin.

In the winter from opening my trunk fast I blew one strut. I thought I blew them both though. But my trunk would stay open for a minute or two until wind would catch it or something. One day I was taking my Subs out and the lid fell on my back. It hurt and pissed me off so I reefed it open snapping the other strut off. Than I realized how heavy these trunk lids are and that one strut was still good. The Aurora has by far the heaviest trunk of any vehicle in it's age I have seen. I wish I wouldn't have let my anger come out though because now I am unable to put a strut in that side as I snapped the ballstud off and my trunk doesn't close as flush as it use too.. Now I have no struts AND recently my trunk popper quit working. I think the subs vibration had something to do with it. So now my Aurora has 2 blown hood struts and 0 trunk struts. Thank god for vice grips!

I consider the struts bad/weak if they won't keep the trunk lid open.

Well one wasn't working at all and the other was fine but that would hold the trunk open for a moment. My hood had bad struts when I bought it I replaced one with a free one that was fine and that blew shortly afterwards. Seems they don't like cold Michigan winters much as I have no working struts on the whole car...
