Hello,
Just got our first Aurora, a 1998. Was curious, has anyone had to use to Limp-home feature on the 4.0L V8? If so, could you explain the feature and if it, in fact, did protect from engine damage? Thanks!

The limp home mode is a safety feature designed to protect your aluminum based 4.0L Aurora V8 from overheating and seizing up. Essentially, if the cooling system fails (ie radiator, block heater frost plug, or hose leak the computer shuts down 4 of 8 cylinders and redirects fuel to keep the engine cool. From that point, there is a serious loss in power and I can assume the DIC will inform you of the situation. From there, a max speed of 50 mph for 60 miles (something around that) can get you to a service centre, home or to a phone. I have never experienced it, but its a nice feature to have, so bear in mind, its always nice to have at least a 1/2 tank of gas for safetey
