I had fluid leaking and steering was very hard. Thought I found the leak. It was a line on the rack going to the gear box. I paid a guy $100 to repair it. Unfortunately I paid him up front. He called and said the whole steering rack was busted and needed replaced. So I am worse off now than when I handed him the $100. But he did fix the line. I can get a rebuilt rack assy on ebay for $130. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to change? I changed one on my 60 mga but it was only held in by a few bolts. Any assistance would be great. I tried to find a tutorial here and nothing.
I am just upset I'm $100 into it with nothing. The only reason I paid him to fix the line is because I am closterfobic and am scared to get under car. I'm going to overcome that because i'm not paying and not getting it fixed.

It's quite job. Pull the wheels, pop the tierod ends.
Than ya gotta sneak in through the wheel well and remove the bolt that attaches the steering knuckle to the rack.
Then start pullin every damn bolt you can find in the rear by the rack.... gotta start by droppin the rear of the rack.. then there's a couple more going into the rack IIRC. There's also one that goes horizontal, same direction as the rack pretty much.
Did the last one on a lift, it probably wouldn't be a lot of fun on the ground
