Hello, everyone! It has been a while since it happened, but I promised that I would explain.
Some of you know and some of you missed it, but a few weeks ago ACNA went offline for a period of 3-4 hours. We got back online very easily, but the reason that we were offline is what I would like to share with you.
The staff and I have decided not to name names or anything; that isn't the point of all of this. I would like to describe the situation and what happened so that we can all avoid it in the future!
One of our previous members (who will remain anonymous) that was banned over a year ago for multiple reasons has been contacting members outside of the club (via youtube, cardomain, etc.) and chatting with them. Said member was removed from the forum for stealing, account violation, and outright lies to the staff. One of the main reasons for removal was to prevent this person from stealing from anyone else.
This member was talking quite a bit with one of the current ACNA members here, one who didn't know the full extent of the banned member's history or the full story why they were removed. (Again, no names will be mentioned.) The banned member gave the current member some pictures and gave permission to repost. The current member knew that this member was banned, so they cropped out the small copywritten portion of the picture so that said pictures wouldn't get deleted.
We are unsure if this was the plan all along (which doesn't seem too likely,) or if the banned member just took advantage of the situation, but instead of explaining to the current member that the copyright needed to be on the photos the banned member filed a complaint with proboards straight away. When proboards talked to the staff they didn't give a whole lot of time for correction, and because we spent too much time gathering facts and trying to figure out what happened we were taken offline.
I contacted proboards, deleted the photos in question to ensure expediency, and explained the situation. Once they heard our side they got us back up straight away.
The point that I would like to leave everyone is this: Banned members are banned for a reason! ;D We work as a staff to ensure that ACNA is a safe, comfortable, easy going place to be. We don't ban anyone easily and don't take those situations lightly... every situation is different. The member in question was given multiple chances (and about six months) to correct their error and did not, so they were banned.
Again we're not sure why said member keeps attacking the forum, or why they jumped on the chance to shut ACNA down for everyone. Please, though, If you're posting copywritten material don't delete the watermark! ;D If there's a question of whether or not you should post it, please feel free to ask one of the staff members first. We would be glad to help!
Some of you veteran members know the situation and the members in question, the staff would like to ask if you could refrain from naming anyone specifically. We just want to stress the importance of not being too friendly with banned members, because sometimes it puts the club in jeopardy!
If there are any questions or comments feel free to ask us! Please understand that I'm not here to badmouth anyone and won't provide names if asked, but I (or any other staff member) would be glad to answer any questions you have.
Thanks and Happy Auroraclubbing, everyone! ;D
