When I press the eject button, I hear a motor whirring, but the cassette doesn't come out? Who can help poor old Dr K not put a sledge to his radio to get it out? Thanks for any tricks or tips!

If possible, use tweezers to grab the thinner section of the tape that jets out from the bottom section of the tape. You should be able to pull it out slowly.. it is power eject have afriend push the button while you pry from the bottom out. Be gentle:)

Sometimes you can disassemble enough to access the gears for the eject mechanism, spinning them by hand to get a stuck tape out. Never had to on this model so I can't say if it's feasible or a lost cause. Magnetic media is so 1970s.

Maybe take a utility knife blade and bend the tip down to get a bite on the cassette body to gently lift up when trying to eject.

Magnetic media is so 1970s. But still has better sound quality than any compressed digital media.

Vinyl, vinyl, vinyl oh and on a 60's early 70's tube amp with heavy cone speakers.
Not the most hifi, but damn, the warmth and the natural sound
Cassettes were cool but when I stopped using them 10 years ago and I can't go back. Even on a old Akai deck I have with prestine cassettes.
Too bad digital is now and the future... even though you can still buy turntables for $300,000 +

Can't play vinyl in the car If you could that would be my method of choice, still buy it to this day! Turntables are VERY expensive though as you mentioned, I got a set of Numark cheapies for $350 but my friend paid $1300 for his Technics 1210's recently. Expensive but they'll last a lifetime.

I pulled out the radio, dissembled a bit, but didn't want to totally open it up. So I got a crochet needle, hooked into edge of cassette, pulled and wigged like heck, but it was in there to stay. Since I don't intend to play any more cassettes, I closed the BOSE door in front of the cassette, put the unit back in the dash, and will leave the cassette there for now. I guess that cassette will be my little hidden secret. Sad thing is, I bought it for .25 cents from a clearout bin -- and the title? Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas! I got my nightmare alright with that soundtrack. Buggered my radio for a two-bit cassette. Drat!

Well technically the only loss was the quarter. Any cassette would have jammed. If you'd put a $10 store-bought Green Day cassette in there, then it would suck. Do you have the Olds or the Bose head unit? Maybe if Aurora had come out 10 years sooner a laser-tracking turntable could have been an option in the glove box! haha

I frankly think the cassette deck was never used in 14 years and it just jammed badly upon the first cassette it ever saw. And I like your optimistic take -- better to lose a two-bit cassette than something more expensive! And it's a Bose Acoustimass system. Greg

There is a locking mechanism that holds the cassette in place. When you had the deck out, you needed to turn the mounting mechanism backwards to get the cassette to dislodge. Most likely you have a gear with one missing tooth. That's what I had on the 98 Intrigue. Stuck cassette was because of the broken gear.

Thanks ntrenn; that's the most logical explanation. I don't think it's a case of tape snagging. The actual tape insertion/ejection mechanism/tray is jammed. Once I can get a pick'n'pull spare, then I may take mine out and "play" with it! Greg
