when you spend an hour a day or more looking for things to photograph you can't help but want to pass it on so i thought i would start a new thread where anyone who loves photography or takes a lot of pictures can show off their work. for several months all i did was take pics of sunsets but i have shifted towards insects now. the switch is due to running into the largest wasp species on earth yesterday. naturally i did not have my camera on me and it terrified me. i was digging under a tree in my yard when something buzzed by my head. i turned around to see (no joke!) a 4 inch wasp. i thought it was a kind of hornet as they are marked pretty close but in fact it was a female eastern cicada killer and it was huge. at the time i did not know that they are pretty harmless and won't sting unless you pick them up. who's gonna do that? so today i went back and tried to find it for pics. it flew by me once but never landed nor did i see where it went but they live in holes in the ground, which there are dozens of around this willow tree. while i came up empty handed i managed to get some other bugs on film... tiger swallowtail eastern amberwing hornet moth wolf spider carrying babies japanese beetles getting busy lol lightning bug

WOW that is some serious HEAT!!! I am so glad we don't have spiders like that around here. I would seriously carry a can of WD-40 and a lighter in my pocket EVERYWHERE I go. Im jealous of the weather! Its like 65-70ºF at the most. And non stop rain. Unfortunately there isn't much to photograph around my house in the city. But I did find some dragonfly's. We haven't had these guys for a few years due to droughts. Our biggest problem around here: Fatty!

great shots skiiirt, i really like the bumblebee. i'd trade you weather in a minute. it's been high 90's-110 every day for like 2 months now and we haven't had a drop of rain in about 3 months. everything is so dry its crunchy and fields are catching on fire around here
