Does anyone have a procedure for changing the steering rack? Can it be done without a lift? Also, what's a good price on a rebuilt? Best price I can find is about $379, which seems pretty high.
Mine is leaking (although not terribly bad). It also has groaning noises when making a turn, and a lot of slop in the steering. The tie rod ends seem to be good.

You got good miles out of yours. Mine went at 80,000 miles on the 95 I had.

Great. Thanks a lot for the information. If you have the procedure for bleeding the PS referenced in the end, that would be very helpful.
Have you done this procedure? If so, any comments on how difficult it is would be appreciated. Looks like you have to do something with the cat converter - could be tough getting those bolts off.

You can get the R&P assembly from Advanced Auto Parts for 354.?? plus a $150 core charge that you get back when you bring your old one to them. Obviously this would only work if you live near an Advanced. Also, Checker Auto Parts, Schuck's Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts are owned by the same company as Advanced, so you might want to check them out too.

I haven't had to replace that on mine, so I don't have any first-hand tips to offer. Here's the PS bleeding procedure though; It looks like you need a vacuum pump and bleeder adapter for it. Funny - I always thought that PS systems bled themselves. My bad I guess. -Shawn
