*This tutorial is intended for the second generation Aurora 2001-2003, but has the same principle as repairing the 1995-1999 heated seat
So your heated seat no longer works in your Aurora, lets take a look at a few possibilities it could be.
1: Check fuses!
It could be a simple fuse blown, so starting here is the easiest. Under your back seat in the fuse box, look for the heated seat fuse.
2: Switch
Is your switch working? Is it back lit at night, and the indicator light just doesn't work? Is the passenger side working? IF both sides are inoperable, very well could be the fuse.
**The most basic thing to look for after Checking fuses and it still is inoperable, is to look for broken wires. Easiest way to do so is to get started by removing the seat.
* My problem (which seems to be common lately) is the switch would turn on, then right back off. You can hear a small click, click from the tan control box under the seat.
Tools you will need:
A: 3/8" Drive TorX T-45 Bit, and a 3/8" Drive ratchet
B: Wire stripping tool
C: Wire crimper
D: Wire connectors
E: 10mm wrench
I: Start by sliding the seat back all the way. The black covers on the bottom legs on the floor are what cover the bolts. Slide them twards the front of the car to remove. This may take some effort.
II: Slide the seat all the way to the front, and level the bottom of the seat and raise the backrest to about 95 degrees. The left rear bolt is Horozontally mounted in the black rail in a little recessed hole. The right side is covered by this cover that just pulls straight up and off
III: Now unplug the air bag sensor under the rear side of the seat. Pull the black tab out that locks release tab and unsnap, unplug accordingly. Then lift the blue locker on the main plug and unplug it from the seat.
IV: Now get ready, this seat is easily 100lbs of awkward hugeness. Be CAREFUL lifting it out because the legs will cut anything in their path.
Remove the seat from the car.
V: Now that you have the seat out, Remove the 10mm nuts at the front of the seat for the bottom cushion.
VI: Unplug all the small plugs that go to the seat sponge itself. These are the wires that go to the elements in the seat.
VII: Undo all the plastic wrap around snaps that hold the leather cover over the cushion to the white plastic that is the base of the seat, and pull the seat control plastic off. The switch controls will unsnap by pulling them straight off, or with the base plastic that is around this area.
VIII: Remove the cushion. Also inspect all wires under the seat cushion since you have it out.
IX: unwrap the leather from the cushion. Each sewed section is held on with Velcro. Carefully pull back each velcro section, some are separate.
X: Inspect the connections from the wires to the elements themselves. Mine was the front of the seat coushion, wire had broken and actually started to spark while trying to regain connection.
XI: Use wire cutters to cut, strip, and reconnect the seating element to the wire harness
REINSTALL is the reverse of this process. Hope this fixes your seat as this fixed mine,it is the most common problem since its always the "Sat on" area.
Enjoy folks!
