I have a 97 olds aurora. Ok, I was getting a "clean key and wait 3 minutes" error every so often but other than that my car ran perfect with no codes. So I decided to send someone, PCMPERFORMANCE, my PCM to get the VATS disabled. he said he flashed it to the lastest and disabled the VATS. The car now starts but now I get a p0122 code TPS low voltage that can't be cleared and the car runs rough and surges every 4 seconds on acceleration. Does the TPS need to be recalibrated after the PCM is flashed? Can anyone help with this. I was also thinking about going to the junk yard and swapping a 98 PCM. will a 99 or 98 PCM work in this car? Or should I just take it to the dealear and fork over $1200.

That dude has a bad name around here if that tells you anything...
Otherwise you can check your TPS for proper voltage... don;t have time to dig up the procedures right now though.

Anyone else? My wife is pregnant and my car is DIW right now. She has to walk and take the bus in the 100 degree heat. I don't have the credit or finances to by a new car or pay $1500 for a dealer to fix everything. Has anyone swapped a PCM from a junk yard? Can I put a 98 or 99 PCM in a 97 aurora? I can get one of those for $25 down the street. What about "madtuner" can he reprogram this thing correctly? any info on anything would help right now about PCM swaps, passkey ii relearn and testing the TPS but the TPS is brand new. Should I be getting 5v to the grey wire going to the TPS? I'm only getting .1v (100mV). And I hooked the ground up direct so I know it's not the ground. I also read somewhere the TPS has to be recalibrated after a flash. But to be honest, I think PCMPERFORMANCE programmed this thing wrong or messed it up because it ran perfect before he flashed it accept for the "clean key" no start once in awhile.

Just calm down.
Pcms should work as long as you match it to your trans ratio, if you have "S" rated tires, you have a 3:48 trans ratio, you have to find a computer from an "S" rated Aurora. The other option you may have is "V" rated tires, a 3:71 trans ratio, then you have to have a computer from a "V" rated Aurora. The computer should plug right in and run the car, no problem as long as you match it up right, year does not matter, except '95s, they have different computers.
You should have asked us before you had the computer fixed, the "clean key, wait 3 minutes" is pretty easy to bypass.

Thanks for your post. How do I check for "s" and "v" because I'm pretty sure the used PCM is already pulled from the car??? I know about the PASSKEY II resistor bypass. When I dug into my car, the previous owner had already soldered in resistors inline with my passkey module. I checked the resisitance and it was still good. But I still got the clean key error once in awhile. I tried the 50hz remote start bypass and still got the "clean key". I've rung out my wires and they are all good. I guess I could have a bad PASSKEY II module but they are $200 and I would hate to spend that kind of money if that isn't even the problem. And that doesn't explain why I still got the clean key even with the 50hz bypass. I don't know if a used PASSKEY II module has to be preset to my resistance or not. . So I figured the VATS disable was the best way to go because I have been having the same problem for about a year now getting stranded for hours at various places because of the "clean key". And everywhere I read says even if you take it to a dealer, it could still come back. Any more suggestions?

The easiest way to check for "V" or "S" rated tires is to simply look on the door panel of the driver side door. When you go to the junk yard just look for the same thing. Like Randy said 96-99 will plug in with no problem, as long as the tire ratings are the same. I'm not sure about your junkyard, but around here the PCM is still in the car. Our PCM's are located in the passenger side footwell. All you have to do is pull the plastic down (as if your changing that bulb) and the PCM sits right up in there. Im pretty sure ION can get your PCM sqaured away if that is what you wish to do. Easiest way to get a hold of him is via email. Did the PCM flash even fix the clean key issue?

Yes, flashing the PCM got rid of the clean key, in fact I totally disconnect the passkey II module and ran a straight ground to the starter enable relay and it starts fine. I tested for 5v at the PCM and nothing so I went to radioshack today and bought a 12v to 5v regulator and straight connected it to the MAP and TPS sensors because those were the codes I was getting and now the car runs normal accept for a high idle after 5 minutes of driving. So right now I have my battery disconnected to reset my PCM and then I will let my car idle for 30 minutes with the ac off to set the parameters in my car. hopefully all will be fixed after that. So I guess the PCM got damaged during shipment or flashing or removal ect. ect. frying the internal regulator that sends the 5v to the sensors. Any other suggestions on how to set my IDLE after a PCM flash will be greatly appreciated because like I said, it will high Idle after 5 minutes of driving around 3000-4000 RPM.

Mine has the security bypassed and it still sets off the clean key wait 3 minutes sometimes, certain things seem to set it off sometimes, like having the brake on or the door open when trying to start it.
Theft control modules program themselves to your car. When they are brand new, and you install them, it sets itself to your car, and it can only be programmed one time. So, used ones are useless, unless you happen to match the range your car is set to, and that's a pretty slim chance.
It sounds like you may be having throttle position sensor problems, that will cause a high idle, but usually not as high as what you are experiencing, it may not be the fault of the tps itself considering the other problems you are having.

It was the computer, Alex sent me a loaner for $100 to confirm. Now it runs perfect and starts perfect. I don't even have the Theft deterrent module hooked up to the car anymore and I have the coil to the starter enable relay hooked straight to ground so I don't think you bypassed your anti-theft from your computer like me. If you did, you wouldn't be getting the clean key anymore.

Well you could have done that ground wire mod and saved your money on the PCM flash for the same effect. Idle Air Controller is not capable of causing that high of RPMs. The most it can cause is about 1200.

That dude has a bad name around here if that tells you anything... yea I won't mention names but someone on here got one from him and it won't work. He's not too happy.

I'll never use him again but he did reluctantly offer me a full refund as stated on his website. But he kept on saying he thought mine got damaged when I hooked it up (wrong) or during shipping.
But he did send me another for $100 which worked just fine.
I don't think you can just hook the ground up because you will still not get fuel to your injectors. Your car will only crank but no fuel. That is saying if your TDM is bad which mine was. Anyway, thanks. You guys are very knowledgeable about these cars. It's much appreciated.

That dude has a bad name around here if that tells you anything... yea I won't mention names... i am 'that dude'. why mention names. much easier to trash someone's reputation in a public forum without evidence. i honestly have no idea who this alleged customer was or what was his alleged complaint. thousands of programmed ECMs and customers satisfied with my work. a single unknown customer with an unknown problem was enough to get me into 'that dude has a bad name around here', around here. nice place, around here. I'll never use him again... why exactly? well, one reason this customer won't use me again is i definitely won't do any more work for him, given that months later i now find out that while sending me polite and appreciative emails there he was simultaneously trashing me here. let's see... customer sent his PCM. i programmed it as requested. returned it. doesn't run correctly. i tell customer it's the PCM, not the tune. i offer refund (you are not reluctant when refunding work you are sure you made no mistake in?) or another PCM @ $100. customer chose to buy PCM. i programmed it with the same calibration. it worked perfectly. problem solved, i was right, it was his PCM. so i did something wrong by being right? or by charging for my PCM -- i am supposed to send a free PCM to every customer whose PCM is faulty? OK. from now on i will no longer program any 4848 northstar PCMs at all, unless the customer purchases a new PCM from me for $250, in addition to the $350 programming fees. and when customers ask me why, i will refer them to this thread. unless it gets taken down. thanks. very informative thread.

How do you know this was a bad PCM for sure? Was the PCM in question tested after the problems happened? Is it also possible there could have been a faulty tune?

Hey vectorbundle. Let me go out here and extend an apology to you. I'm certain when this thread was posted I was thinking PCMCalibrators and not PCM Performance. At that time there were only three people tuning these vehicles(that we knew of). Wester's, MadTuner, and PCMCalibrator. Sorry to have jumped to that conclusion. I am HAPPY to see there is someone else out there tuning these PCMs! I am certain some will be in contact with you! I don;t see any info on your site though. Care to post a link?

You say you have no clue who he was and then remember him in the same post? haha haha, it's funny. but for a different reason. the "he" and "him" whom you so confidently conflated are obviously 2 distinct individuals, about whom i therefore said different things. if you go back and reread paying more attention to the sequence of the discussion, i am confident you will eventually understand... 1st how to distinguish them... and then the irony -- that you were laughing because you thought you cleverly caught me in something dishonest with your screaming red font but actually you just experienced a basic reading comprehension problem.

Why not quote a post praising you and asking you to post a link to your site instead?
