Hi ,im new to the site :). I have a 1998 aurora with well over 200,000,00 and about a month and a half ago it got towed and sat for 3 1/2 days at impound, after going to pick it up I noticed there was slight rattle coming from engine but figured it was just from sitting for so long (it never sits more then 8hours a day I drive alot) but now its still doing it and getting alot worse to the point I can hear it a block away on cold starts???

My guess would be a bearing, such as idler or tensioner pulley. Use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope to isolate it.

So I figured out what was wrong, the water pump was bent causing it to seize up ,there for breaking the crank shaft, melting the pully, and destroying the belt!

Yeah, the plastic pulley that's connected to the upper crankshaft snapped off

I'm not sure if you have taken care of it or not yet but This Thread may help. Not the first time this has happened.

Thank you for the response I got it all fixed for$600 , I'm thinking it was a good deal? If the actual cam broke then maybe I doubt it was the cam shaft itself. The pulley takes a few minutes to press off and press the new one on. The tensioner if broken another fifteen minutes. That's an hour job total IMO and probably <$200 parts/labor. If it was the camshaft broken then...
