Anyone have pictures of rocker panel removed and/or know how much open space there is?
Thanks.

So really no space there I presume by that photo after the panel is re-installed.

That's my rusty baby. Not much room under there. What are you trying to stash?

Make sure to pick up[ a box of the clips off ebay. I can get you the link when off work. Keep track of which rubber seal goes with which side, and don't bother trying to save the old clips. Just unscrew the two bolts at the front/bottom, and yank the old ones off.

Just unscrew the two bolts at the front/bottom, and yank the old ones off. I removed the driver side a bit ago. Broke a few clips but apparently they are designed that way according to the FSM. From the looks of the rocker cover though it seems it should slide out of the retainers slots. The rubber stayed in one piece. One push pin retainer in wheel well, the 7mm screws on the bottom and popped out retainers. Happy to report no rust!! I will still treat with POR15/Chassis Saver though now since I know this area is prone to rust. This will give some time to fill in while finishing the main project and waiting for some new retainers after I track them down. Let me know if ya find the link!

Thanks. They look to be a unique fastener. I didn't see anything similar on Dorman's website. One of those Chinese resellers might though.

This is what the driver side looks like underneath the rocker cover on my '96. Just going to clean it up a bit and do some preventative maintenance so they don't end up corroded. I did the rear wheel wells last summer. Debris that fell out when removing rocker cover. Rear: Front:

It's always a relief when you take a body moulding off and find the underlying structure in that condition...

It's always a relief when you take a body moulding off and find the underlying structure in that condition... I can't agree more. Still not sure what I am going to coat it with yet though. I'm not going to scuff it up to apply por15 or chassis saver. That seams counter productive.

Agree'd. Based on it's condition, I'd spray up in there with some thick oily substance and leave it at that. Anything you put on there that "seals" probaly stands MORE of a change of retaining moisture and CAUSING something to start!

I don't think trunk bed coating or rubberized spray would be a good choice in this scenario. I always heard about linseed oil in the past. I don't want something running down the car at highway speed. Perhaps just a good cleansing and few heavy couats of wax on top of each other? Open to any suggestions!

The reasoning for removing the rocker panel covers was to add some puddle lamps to the under side. My initial thought was modding them in the mirrors but I didn't want to molest the mirrors in any way. There was not a good mount location for any of my ideas due to the Classics mirror curvature in internals(turn signal doable though). So, akin to Suburu Outback and probably some other vehicles with the option, I placed them under the rockers. One module under each door. Got to keep the rear passengers in mind as well! On with door open and key fob unlock only. More details in dedicated thread later... You'll see some mirror puddle lamps soon probably, just not on a Classic hhe.

Looks good! A nice mod. As always, details are appreciated! I wouldn't mind doing this myself. Did you just wire them to the interior lights, or was it more tricky than that? Good stuff, at any rate!

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 using ProBoards Thanks Collins! A little more tricky than just wiring them up to interior lamps depending on how you want them to come on. I am awaiting a response from eastwood about using that cavity wax in between the rocker and rocker cover before permanently mounting the rockers again. More details later!
