Just like title says, tried new VSS and it changed speed at which speedometer starts fluctuateing but still have problem. It now starts at 70mph before changing VSS it did it at 75-78mph. Is this a bad bushing in tail shaft of trans or possible bad cv joint causing clearance change due to vibration?

More likely a wiring issue, unless you're hearing some mechanical racket that makes you suspect those parts for a reason.

No I don't have any obvious mechanical problems. Was reading in the service manual about clearances on the vehicle speed sensor and it occurred to me that if these clearances were not consistent you could get a fluctuation in speedometer signal causing cruise control to kick out as it tries to maintain speed. The speedometer needle jumps up and down with a variance of 2-3 mph, cruise attempts to correct 2-3 times and then kicks out. Was really hoping this might be a common problem and there was a sure fire fix.

Really seems odd that speed changed at which this occurs when I changed out speed sensor. Made me think I might be on the right track.

Is the check engine light on? Seems like you should have a trouble code. I'm suspecting wheel speed sensor(s).

No. I have no engine lights. You may be right on the electrical. Bad ground? Wheel speed sensor, hmmm have to do a little reading on that one, I thought the wheel speed sensors were primarily for traction control.

and Anti-lock brakes. Don't know if they could/would affect cruise, just throwing ideas out.
