i just bought a 99 aurora and it runs and drives excellent, but i have no headlights. the column mounted switch only turns on the park lights. i can pull back on the switch on the column and the brights come on as long as i hold it back. does anyone possibly have a clue what the problem may be. i also have something draining down the battery, i noticed that the cooling fans aren't cutting off. how can i fix this, i think that's what is killing my battery

Hi. Welcome!
Blown fuse? Bad bulbs? Simple things first. Multifunctuon switch may need a good cleaning. Do the DRLs work?
The cooling fans run after the ignition is OFF?

Do you have a DMM. Probably going to have to poke around a bit!

One angle to consider for the headlight prob is the lamp control module or maybe the ambient light sensor in the dash? Had my car in for an oil chg at a trusted GM dealer recently, and a guy with what looked like my car's twin came in right after me. He had the same headlight issue as you (I had helped him make sure it wasn't user error). Later I could hear the tech telling him it was the lamp control module. Give this a read: aurorah.proboards.com/thread/21553They probably hardly ever see Auroras at this dealer anymore and here were two nearly identical cars right in a row!

DRL's working now but only park lights have no wiring diagrams so not sure where fuses are. The only thing i see is a 20 amp circuit breaker in fuse block under the back seat and it is good. So park lights work with DRL and column switch, but thats all i have. The cooling fans still won't cut off , i am having to unplug the relays under the hood to keep my battery from dying. Is there any way to test the MFS or Lamp module? ?

No voltage at 20a circuit breaker in fuse block under rear seat. Shouldn't there be 12v there ? Really wish I had the wiring diagram for the headlight system. Sall. Can ya help me out lol

thank you paul i have park and fog lamps on drl. also have the same when headlight switch is on also have flash to pass but thats it. also my cooling fans are still getting power even when the ign switch is off and they do not turn off. i have to pull the 2 relays under the hood and they are good to keep battery hot. any idea where to begin.

Alright. Let's see... Trying to get this straight. The park and fog lamps are on at all times with key on? With multifunction switch the parks never go out. Headlamps never come on?
Go buy a can of compressed air/duster. Pull back the multi-function switch rubber cover and spray inside the holes liberally. See if that helps. Check the stickies for further info. It's either the multifunction switch or the LCM IMO. Could be bad ground as well but I would suspect you would have other issues(besides the cooling fan).
As for the cooling fans, I would open another thread for that one to stay on topic here. However, IRRC the PCM grounds the fan relays to activate them. So somehow the PCM is grounding the relays or there is short.

Ok guys. I have found the problem and now it's fixed. All lights working correctly. The LCM was fried. Connector was melted to the case and the 4 center pins were burnt. Thanks for all your help

Well it was fixed or so I thought. After a few days now the DRL's are not working but all other lights are.
