well, I'll just start off, since it is getting colder my 2001 Aurora will start and have a high idle of about 1200 - 1500 rmp's, sometimes up to 2500. I'll turn off the car wait a couple of minutes and start it again. It will now come down to about 700 - 900 rmp's but will shift a little bit hard. I sometimes have to turn off the car a couple of times before the high idle will stop, but other times I get in and it will start and run just fine. I've been looking though some of the other Q & A's in the site and I have seen some references to the "throttle position sensor" and I was wondering if this could be the issue, or if the spark plugs need changing. I have replaced the air filter, PCV valve, kind of the general maintenance. Looking for some advice if it's out their. Thanks (if it is the sensor, where is it located?)

Is its 3.5 or 4.0? If its 3.5 its common issue with TPS since there gasket that brakes and let coolant in to the sensor and causing to fail. It will cause trans not to shift correctly as well.

My 2001 4.0 will run at 1500+ for the first minutes or three then drop down to 700. As it does this every time, I assumed it to be normal. ...gene

1500 kinda high 1200-1300 for me all the time. I seen 1500 on 3.5 in very cold weather.

Perfect, everything worked great, it had a little jump in the gas pedal but it's all gone. Thanks again so much for all the help from everyone.
