Help!
I've every 2-4 days days (when engine is cold) I turn key ('01 3.5) and nothing happens...battery is new and lights are bright.
Here's some clues:
When turn key to start position and hold for 5-10 several times it will eventually start...it has never left me stranded.
When it does start, sometimes (but not all the time) the tach will go haywire and show 7=8k at idle, i'll turn engine off and restart with no problem, tach returns to normal.
This "no-start" only happens when cold and occasionally it show a security issue on screen, but not always.
I've replaced battery and ignition switch.
Thanks,
Mark

common issue with 3.5 is starter or TPS. most common issue is the starter.

ok, but why would you get a "security" error or tach malfunction?

It can be Security system issue or issue with voltage that can cause this error to appear. poor start conditions might give u this msg as well.

...so after paying a little closer attention to this, I've discovered that if I turn the key on (before I turn fully to start) and I see "Theft System Fault" on the DIC I can turn key off and on a couple times until this disappears, once its gone it seems like she'll start. So now the question is: If it is the Theft system where do I start to look for problems?

Try to use another key . but It is possible can be theft system issue as well. I had bad wire to purge solenoid sensor and when it was causing a short it would get this message but the car would start. once I replaced the wire to the sensor the issue was resolved .
