Anyone know how to solve this. I have sanded and sealed the gas cap. Pcv valve is still good. My guess is its the evap canister above the gas tank on my 99? anyone?

That or if you did any work involving the fuel pump recently you might not have sealed the top correctly. Happened to me when I did the fuel sending unit, o-ring binded up and didn't seal right. had to re-tighten

Have you tried a new cap? Had this code on a GMC Envoy I used to have and a new cap cured it, even tho the old one looked just fine. Best I can tell something went bad internally.

when the code is cleared it seems to come back when down to under quarter tank of gas. Im thinking it could be a sending problem. The p0440 code could be anything. I had replaced the gas cap on my 98 when I had the same issue. This 99 has more rust on the underbody and frame. I don't think the lines have leaks. The tank seems fine as its plastic. But will have to check the pump itself next time its on the hoist.

its the canister or solenoid hat is in the bracket near the pcv valve with the connectors. Hard to tell if theres anything beyond that until it is replaced.
