I got a 2003 Aurora last week ( my first ever car and I love it ) from a family friend of mine. The car runs very nice. However, I have the Serv Stability Sys showing up on the dashboard. It is always showing up. No check light or anything. Just this. Any idea, about the reason for this ? It has 110k miles. Is this related to any other problems that the car has ? ( I am going to slowly fix one by one )
i) Front lights glowing very dim ii) Weak rear break caliper. iii) The steering wheel is not smooth. It is very rough in the sense, it is very sharp compared to other vehicles. If I leave it for a file without holding, the car just drifts away from the road.
Please help me. This is my first car and want it to maintain it very nice.

Hello The Serv Stability sys is bad Steering positioning sensor its about 85$ part and if u wont shops to fix it for you it migh cost u about 250-300 with the part. The steering can be bad ISS(intermediate steering shaft) or you need new power steering pump/hoses or bad rack. I would replace both back calipers before anything else . Dim lights might just need to clean the head lights. The car need alignment and tier balance if its just drifts away.

Besides the steering wheel position sensor, there's also the lateral acceleration sensor & the yaw rate sensor in the stability control system. They could be bad also. You have to have it scanned to pinpoint the faulty part.

If you have a weak battery or alternator, that can cause the Service light to come on.
Before throwing money at it, take it to a parts place and have them do an alternator and battery test on it.
Do you get an ABS light as well as the Trac Off light on the dash?

if its just Serv Stability sys on a dic it wont have anything to do with bat or alt only if abs trac brake lights are on or bad hub.
Replacing Steering wheel posting sensor is not waste of $ since it will fail 10000000% so even if its not it. it will be IT next day or in a month. But if its just Serv Stability its deff it or like marc said yaw rate sensor but it almost never fails.

I do not have a battery or alternator problem. I just put a new one recently. None of the lights are on.So I change the steering wheel position sensor ?

Yes, if you only get the SERV STABILITY SYS message on the DIC change the steering wheel position sensor first.
