Hello all. Not sure if this is in the right forum. If not please move it to the correct one.
I have had my '01 3.5 for about a month now and have a few questions.
1) I only have key fob 2. On the DIC I set it to driver 2. When I lock the doors and use the fob to unlock the car the DIC reverts to driver 1. Is that normal?
2) Once in a while if the car slides sideways on ice or snow I get a message on the DIC about traction (cant remember the full message). Is this normal or is there a problem?
3) Under the front of the car, behind the bumper is a black plastic piece that transverses the front. That piece has been hit and is distorted. I have it zip tied up but don't like it that way. What is that piece called and can I get a new one somewhere?
4) I have 2 ignition keys and no passkey. With one ignition key it will start die a few times and eventually it will start. With the other key the problem is a little weirder. If I orientate the key one way it will act the same as the first key. If I rotate the key 180 degrees and use the other side the car will start every time.

Sounds like the number on the FOB is wrong - I accidentally swapped the numbers on my FOB once, when changing the batteries. The case does not determine the FOB number, the actual circuit inside does. So it sounds like you actually have FOB 1, with a mis-matched case.
The traction on DIC message is just to inform you that the system has activated. This is normal if you hit any slick areas.
Are you talking about the air deflector? That piece goes all the way along the front, right under the bumper. I just lost mine 2 weeks ago in that huge snowstorm (I was out east visiting my son), and have not been able to find a replacement. I even visited a couple salvage yards, but it seems this part goes missing on the Aurora all the time. I read a thread on this forum that indicates the deflector is a very scarce part. What I did just today, was drill a couple holes through the under-pinning into the bumper and secured everything with those "push-pennies". Looks like it will hold forever. The general consensus is the deflector is unneeded, and I figured at least this way I have a permanent fix, if I cannot find a new one.
I have no clue about the ignition switch. I had my PCM reprogrammed my mad tuner, and in the process he disabled the passkey check. The keys and detection circuit are known to ave issues, and I was getting to the point where I was having occasional issues with the car starting.
Hope this helps! Dan

Thanks dnajc. The key fob back could have very well been switched by the previous owner.
That's it, the air deflector.
Did not know you could reprogram the PCM. What does that entail?

I sent him a used one off a junker, and he reprogrammed the computer. He changed the shift points, raised the rev-limiter values, shift firmness, and other changes that I don't recall. I noticed a huge difference. Gas mileage improved - when I keep out of the throttle And, the overall responsiveness and feel was greatly improved. Here is a link to that old thread: aurorah.proboards.com/thread/26916/group-buy-pcm-tuning-interest?page=1#scrollTo=300998

I asked the original owner about the key fob and he said he lost #1 when the car was 2 years old. He said he never replaced the batteries.

When I slip the Stability control system activates "stability active" msg will show on a dic. The key fob goes by board inside that that means the # on a back is wrong they might not remember that battery was changed. Dic wont show #1 when its 2 unless dealer had to reprogram keyfobs and he program #2 to #1 .

Well that was fun. Just got done replacing the PS pressure hose and the oil sending unit. Got it all back together and the low pressure line leaks like a sieve. It was a rust hole that formed in the metal line about a half inch from the compression fitting. This was where the line runs back along the engine cradle to the rack. I just cut the line and hose and spliced it together with a hose clamp for now. Not much fun when it's 10 degrees out. One question though. Inside the low pressure hose was a metal line. I don't know if that was to prevent kinking or help protect from leaks through the hose. Here's a picture of it
