Hi everyone, I'm new to the site. Hope someone has some ideas. I put a new rack and pinion in my daughters 02 and had to loosen the sub-frame to slide the gear out (although I'm not sure it's related). After getting it back together, I was bleeding the power steering and looked under the vehicle and saw a leak. To my surprise is wasn't power steering fluid but antifreeze. It is dripping at a pretty good pace only while the car is running. It's dripping through at the fly wheel or the drivers sided of the oil pan and I cannot find the source. I took off the throttle body to get a better look from the top and can see antifreeze on the intake manifold. Other than cooling lines on the plenum are there any routed under the plenum or could i have shifted something enough to crack it. I did keep the engine supported when I loosened the sub-frame.

Sounds like you may have leaking coolant crossover gaskets, they are bad on all Auroras that have not been changed yet. It is the part your water pump is mounted in and it connects the heads together, the gaskets are between the crossover and the head, they are called "water pump gaskets" at parts stores. On the LX5 3.5 you have to pull the exhaust down to be able to pull the crossover, they are a slight pain in the boot.

Its a major pain in the ass. You need a car lift. Rear Manifold has to come loose. Leave the brake booster on. Trans dip stick has to come out and then with the manifold rocking around loose you can get the crossover pipe out. S pipe comes out of there too. rear manifold gets a new gasket. Do not attempt if you are not in a real shop with out a carlift. Its worth paying a tech $600 bucks to do this. i did this in 2007 and cringe to think of the rusted stuff and oil to deal with now. YIKES.

You only have to pull the exhaust pipe on the 3.5 to change the coolant crossover gaskets, on the 4.0 you do not have unbolt any exhaust.

It isn't that bad I did it in my driveway. All you need is a couple jack stands some time and a lot of patience. it took me awhile to get the rear manifold off but it was way easier. reach under the brake booster and take the trans dipstick loose FIRST. Put a catch bucket under the car or you will have a mess. I didn't that's how I know. The crossover gaskets are pretty easy on the wallet you need three total. plus your exhaust manifold kit I think mine was under 30.00. I cant remember now but I do know that its an extensive repair but with time you could have it apart and replaced and back together in two days. there is six bolts on each manifold. it does take some masterful articulation but like I said Patience is key..
