Car is down, thought the rear valve gasket was just leaking but more than that is going on. I am tempted to cut off the cat and patch it up. Anyone have advise or done it? I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. Replacement cat was cheap, should have known it would not last long esp with high oil consumption. Motor runs great and has good gas mileage. So tempted to cut it out but am worried the computer might screw up with codes or stuff?

Oh, you'll definitely get a code without a converter. I've heard you can gut it and use spacers on the post cat O2 sensor to fool the PCM though.

Yeah use spark plug non fouler thingies or they make simulators as well. You can just gut it vs cutting it out too.

if your cat is plugged and had been for a while, you could have started burning exhaust valves. my 4.6 had this problem.
