Hi all!! So I'm in need of a new alternator. So as I'm searching eBay, Amazon, RockAuto, I come across a site talking about supercharged alternators. Now, as far as I can tell, most of the alternators that will fit my '95 Aurora is a 12v 140amp, however, assuming that is the same as what was put on for replacement last time, I was only able to stay above 14.0 volts while running for a day or two. So, again, while doing my search I came across an advertisement for a 160amp output. Would this be better? Or is this what we're supposed to be using? Hopefully I can get a little direction on a good alternator, as my "Check Charge System" notifications have infiltrated my dreams.

CS144 140A is OEM. Absolutely no need for a higher rated output unless you plan on adding a stereo system or other aftermarket accessories with a large draw. It sounds like your replacement's voltage regulator is bad or you possibly have battery issues.

OK. Thanks for replying. I've wondered about the battery myself and based on what I've read, as its sitting at 12.2 volts and being a 12v battery, it's still basically dead. But haven't figured out if that's cuz alternator was only putting out 12.8 or if its cuz I haven't been driving it, etc. I do know that it was an after market part though and never quite did the job. I appreciate the OEM part number. So much easier to order when you know for sure!

Thanks for the update.
What all did you have to go through to figure it out?
Please say you didn't R&R the alternator only to find it was the battery.

So actually, though I was told the battery and replaced it... then told alternator, and replaced it the check charge system warning kept coming up. Eventually a friend had some spare time to dig in to it and what it actually was is the pulleys needing replaced. One or both were wobbly and do the serpentine would slip a bit causing the alternator to not do its job. Replaced belt tensioner and the pulley and Viola! Problem solved.
