I have a 1999 Classic and it's overheating. The other day on the drive home from work I was stuck in a minor traffic jam for just a few minutes when I got home it was boiling over. At first, I thought it was a bad thermostat because it boiled over out of the reservoir so I replaced the thermostat. I had the weekend off so I really didn't drive it. Monday came I went to work with no issues. However on the way home I hit the minor traffic jam again and when I got home it was boiling over again. I allowed it to cool completely and refilled the reservoir and had a thought maybe it's the fans or fan relays. I drove it to work ... there were no traffic tie-ups ... I popped the hood when I got to work and no boil over. Went home after work and again hit minor traffic and again had a boil over. Is there any way to test the fans or the relays that control the fans? Are there other things I should check?

Tigger, I thought the A/C forced BOTH fans to kick on? Anyways, if you are unsure of fans it is only 2 fasteners and an electrical connector to pull them and wire directly to a 12 volt source. Then you can work upstream to relays, temp sensor and fuses. With or without A/C low temp should fire at ~ 190-195, and high temp at ~ 220-225.

...Tigger, I thought the A/C forced BOTH fans to kick on? Yes, I said "low speed fans". I assumed Classic and 2G setup was the same; low speed = both fans in series, high speed = both fans parallel. My apologies if this is incorrect for the Classic.

No, my bad guys. Thanks for the correction. (Returns to corner with dunce cap on for mandatory timeout.)

If the fans are working okay, it may need a new thermostat. Mine is getting that and an oil pressure sensor tomorrow.
