Hi again all!
I have a steering issue with the Olds. As I am driving 70+ mph, the car will wander back & forth slightly. I have replaced the outer tie rods & that seemed to correct the problem slightly, but the issue is still predominate. I assume the inner tie rods are loose too, so I will be replacing them also. Wondering if there is a replacement procedure/diagram for the inner toe rods? Thanks in advance!

I might try to pick the brains of an allignment shop before throwing too many parts at it if the inner tie rods don't fix things.
My MarkVIII control arm bushings and a ball joint all wore out enough that suddenly it was a wandering dog. It started making clicking noises also. While it has a very reliable drivetrain the suspension is a bunch of popsicle sticks compared to the Olds.

Nevermind, the teal colored part is just a cover. Lightly tap it back & tada, you can put the socket on.

Well is there any detectable play in the inners? I have original inners, ball joints and bushings on our 2001 with 155k miles. It drives straight but does seem to have a dead spot right in the center of the steering which I assume in the rack (had a bad leak issue in the hydraulic hose which resulted in multiple low fluid situations).

Mine had a dead spot like yours. Replaced inners & outers & no more dead spot or wander. The dead spot you refer to, is a looseness in the steering tie rods where you have to steer against the wear & gets worse with speed. One of the 4, the outer (rt) was replaced, all others were original. After replacement of the steering parts, I no longer feel the ISS clunk. The inner tie rod teal covers were not tight against the replacement tie rods, so I discarded them. You will need a special socket to replace the inners. I went to O'Reilly Automotive & they have a rent a tool program. They charged me $60 + tax for the socket set & require a 48 hour return, as long as you return the tool in the time allotted, they give you a complete refund with the original invoice. I used them also for the water pump socket. This will be the last set ever going on this car as it has over 195k miles. To the date, I have replaced both crank sensors, valve cover gaskets, various vacuum lines, ignition switch, battery, tie rods, rear shocks, fuel pump, fuel cap, sway bar links, water pump, 4 tires, O2 sensor & both coil packs. Still needs injection pump, ISS, mufflers, P0741 (not repairing), rear tie rods & rf fender splash shield.
