My 01 Aurora 3.5L with 220K miles will start (when cranking) but dies immediately intermittently. If I accelerate during startup it will continue to run. However, once I take foot off accelerator it will stop running immediately. These has happen dozen+ times and afraid to use this car. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Navin

This would be a difficult one for me to diagnose. I feel your pain.
Is the check engine light on?
My MarkVIII has had an Idle Air Control motor misbehave. It annoyed me at the stumbling at idle phase and my mechanic buddy said I should clean or replace it then bother him if that was not it. Well it has been, twice over the last 80k miles lol.

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

No codes. I have not checked fuel pressure -- will have it checked. However, since this problem is intermittent and car runs fine most of times. Can it still be fuel pressure/fuel pump?

I have seen fuel pumps act in strange ways when failing.

Fuel pressure is ok. This happen several times now. Car start and run smoothly for 2 seconds and immediately stops. If I accelerate it runs fine without any hesitation and stop once I let get go sometimes and other times it continue to run without any problem. Plugged in code scanner and no codes.
Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks, navin

Same problem.
Usually starts and runs fine. Tonight after driving about five miles and parking it would start for a second and die. If you press the accelerator when starting it will run but dies if you let up. After several tries it started and ran fine.
Did you ever find out what caused it?

After cleaning TPS, EGR value (by removing carbon building up) and throttle body, car started over 50 times over past two week and not a single time car died immediately after start. I hope problem is resolved.

Was gonna suggest IAC valve or a vacuum leak
