I'm getting ready to change the fluid in my 2001 3.5 Aurora. At one time someone posted a picture about draining more tranny fluid after draining the pan. He took out a bolt in the valve body I believe and was able to drain another 3 quarts. Does anyone know where I can find that post or is it worth draining the extra?
Thanks, Bob

That additional draining is only for the 4T80E, because the 4T80E uses a dry sump design. The majority of the trans oil there is in the side cover. To drain all the oil from the 4T65E, just remove the trans oil pan. (The 4T65E is used in the 3.5, the 4T80E in the 4.0.) EDIT: If you want to see the post about the 4T80E oil & filter replacement, it's at aurorah.proboards.com/thread/6007

Hey Bob, a drain and fill (pan drop) on any automatic is only gonna get rid of about half of the old fluid. The rest is trapped in the torque converter. But it does give you the opportunity to clean the magnet and pan and replace the screens.
If you wanna get it all (ok, most) out, research "transmission cooler line fluid exchange".
