I recently replaced my rear brakes on my 01 3.5 Aurora. Why does it seem that the rear pads are only grabbing onto the very edge of the rotor and half of the pads aren't grabbing anything? It seems as though the pads are only pinching the edge of the rotor. I tried doing search and came up with nothing. Can someone please help me?

Sure you have the right rotor? The pads are only going to cover as much of the rotor as the size of the pad. The rear ones are not that big. They also don't handle as much braking as the front ones.

the pads need to grab the rotor that means the rotor you use is wrong one or the slider frame was changed .

The stock rotor was in the same condition and the new rotor fit the same way.... I'm using the rotors that were given to me according to the parts suggested

I can't fully visualize what's happening but could it just be that the pads are chamfered (beveled) along the leading and trailing edges, making it look like only a small part of the pad is touching? Did you grease the slider pins/bolts? Maybe one side is hanging up and making it look cockeyed?? Also not sure how different 1st and 2nd gen rear brakes are, but this might help too (scroll down for rears): aurorah.proboards.com/thread/2447/brake-job

I think what he means something like this but it goes in maybe few inches more and not hugging the rotor all the way

Well, that would be pretty extreme, don't think you could even mount it like that, it would have to be the wrong sized rotor to achieve that.
Remember, the pads are only going to grip the outside edge of the rotor, the thickness of the pad. The whole "braking surface" of the rotor is not going to be used.

well it was just an example but it has to cover most of the rotor but for him it was covering maybe few inches

That is exactly what is happening. Well not as exaggerated as the picture posted but the general idea is that. Half of the pad is actually gripping the rotor in the other half isn't. Went back and swapped out the rotors they were the same size and for some reason that is the issue. I'm running the brakes like that either way and I'm not happy. It's too cold right now to measure the actual size of the rear rotor but I plan to do that as soon as we warm up a bit.

Did you actually get the caliper back on? If not it sounds like you either have the wrong rotor, wrong pads or did not open the caliper up all the way for the pads to clear the rotor.
