I have a 97 aurora and recently my traction and abs light popped up. Took to have scanned and they said their scanner cant read it that id have to go to GM and have them use the old scanner. Any help with that?. All 4 hubs was replaced before i got the car and looks like the wheel speed sensor is pressed in hub. Are the removable? Didnt wanna pull hub and pop out if its not suppose to come out. Btw the abs and traction control is not active while lights are present. Was gonna pick up a free used electronic brake module tomorrow. Atleast i think that is the name, its the one mounted on the driver strut tower. Any help will be great, like always. Did have cheap metallic pads, gonna try to clean wheel sensors tomorrow. Any good cleaner? Being a sensor, not sure if brake parts cleaner would be good lol

Nevermind, aurora is gone Monday. Cant figure out the abs problem. Done paid a shop $130 just to check abs light and he said that it needs a older scanner to pull the codes. Dealership said it will be $365 to scan it. That will be added up to close to $500 just to find out whats wrong then anywhere from $100-450 to fix issue, so gotta guy coming tomorrow to look at it for $600. Hate to lose it but ive sunk enuf in it, cant continue wastin money on process of elimination.

A shame you had to pay a man who did not know what he was doing.
What is your plan on replacing the Aurora?

Sucks, eh. That's why I do my own maintenance here. Worse comes to worse, a bit of black tape over the light can fix most anything. <G> (That's if it's just a sensor issue. Not advocating using black tape to fix a DANGEROUS problem! ) Did they at least try to clear the codes and see if they came back? You can do that with a cheapie tester yourself, or just head on down to the local big box auto parts and let them do it for you. Most of them do OBDC tests, if only to sell you the parts you need ... I think I paid $30 for my trusty lil Actron some years back. PS ... how does the car FEEL with the "errors"? Worse comes to worse, with an ABS fault, you just have to be a bit more careful when braking as it should default to good old pedal feel when coming to a stop. I do that on snow and ice here anyway, as I don't trust ABS to do it right. Traction control goes bad, you may spin your wheels a bit more - I never found it to be all that effective anyway - only real noticeable effect is on hard take offs. If you DO get it fixed, testing the lights is easy ... just floor it from a dead stop. ;-}
