Hey everyone. SO my moms 2002 3.5 aurora is overheating . What happens is when you stop at traffic light the temp will go up and fans will come on non stop when u start driving the temp will go down. now the temp will go down if u remove the fuses for the fans, since fans dont stop and when that happens the thermostat closes and inside you feel knocking like its boiling inside . If i keep fans turn off thermostat opens and tenp goes down. The did diagnostic in a shop and they believe its head gasket or issues with the cylinders or a crack . So i will bring it to the dealer to do the compression test etc . p.s when i put car on "N" the temp goes down by it self and faster even with fans.
and if it will be engine does anyone know where i can get another rebuild engine since i dont see on GM sites they sell it anymore and putting the engine from ebay that 140k dont wanna do that too. Trying to see the car any advise will be appreciated.

Sounds like water pump. x2, RPM increase increases the flow, dropping into neutral will reduce load, raise RPM. Perhaps a corroded or broken impeller.

Update : wanted to drop the car at the dealer where my mom lives Brooklyn NY and got the worst service ever seen. First they were rude as hell and 2nd they told me your car is too old for us to work on we dont have mechanincs to work on your car. We only accept 2006 cars and higher and we might have someone to look at it in April . I Called GM corp and they didnt do a thing about it. So i go to NJ had to drive with rpm always up to 2000 on stop lights would put car in "N" and hold gas pedal and of cause while driving on highway it was fine. So now will look for privet shop to see what they can find.

Jerks. What's he name of that dealership?
There is a legitimate concern of a shop diagnosing an older car as having a bad engine then not only they don't get paid, but the car is abandoned on their lot. Still, any service manager should be man enough to say that is his worry and he needs a deposit.
So, what is the name of that dealership? It won't do you anygood but I would get a sadistic amount of pleasure from talking with them.

its called Kristal Auto Mall Brooklyn NY.. I called GM corp and they didnt do anything they told me they Franchise and we cant force them to fix your car but we can help you to find another dealer. Well new car or old car they should be able to do a head gasket test which is same test they do on 90s cars or 2015s cars no difference.

At a 2k rebuild, would it were worth it to look for a low mileage motor to put in?

low mileage motor cost about 1.5k plus labor to take out old one and put another one in and u never know if that other used motor will not fail sine this motor only has 90k.and swapping engine since the job i cant do my self will be more then 2k with labor etc. Plus it already has new water pump new t-stat new valve cover gaskets etc .

Maybe get the heads studded while you're at it.

Yeah I would personally just buy a remanned studded engine. That is what I plan to do(4.6L) if/when mine goes.

I would definitely write a review on yelp, and help other car owners avoid their horrible service. $2000 for a true reman engine WITH a head stud kit including labor isn't horrible, especially if you aren't able to do yourself. still beats a new car payment!

Is this a GM dealership? That means they probably dont have any good mechanics and service is poor. I have never heard of that because your car is a certain GM year.
They do sell our 3.5l Oldsmobile engines, if you still want one, just let me know?

Not in the 2ng gen. That 'shelby' can go in a first gen but it is merely a 4.0L with 4.6L VIN 9 cams.

The 2G PCM won't run that motor though and vice versa. I am sure it could be figured out with time/money and less boos. There is one member who put a 3.8L in their 2G but would not divulge the programming info because of said time/money. Plenty more after market in that arena.
