I have a '97 that showed some irregularity in it's ability to open via the keyless fob. I would have to go in through the passenger door, manually push the lock tab with the fob clicking to get it to open, (occationally) then, it just ceased up, no opening with key fob, key, inside tab, nothing. I don't look that graceful going over the console.... and am going on a road trip within 10 days so I'd like to be more flexible in getting in... any ideas? I cannot get the door open, nor can I get the panel off as the door is shut. Help... Big Aurora North of 49th..

I had a terrible experience with my passenger door. It was stuck shut and instead of ruining the inside panel prying it apart I used, get this, a sawzall to reach in and cut the door latch.
It realy didn't turn out badly. Mine is not a show car by any means though and there was some risk involved.
Seems like a design flaw most cars have.
If I had it to do over I might try to access the levers in thrbdoor with a "lock out" kit while someone worked trying to open it from the inside.
Whats worse, nothing really was broken inside my door. I drove for a month with the panel in the trunk waiting to find the out of spec part.
There HAS TO be a better way than what I did. Right?

The only thing I could suggest is really working the tab inside back and forth and maybe something will catch (or does the tab even move at all?) Or perhaps have someone unlock and re-lock with the key while you push the tab. Just something to get things moving. I can't really think of what could be freezing up unless it's something in the latch itself. Or perhaps the rods that operate the lock are disconnected/bent. Otherwise I think you may be in for some door panel surgery...

Take the handle cover off and fiddle with the linkage.

Mine stuck a couple times before REALLY getting stuck. Bumps in the road or hip checking it would unstick it. I wonder if wedges under the door from the inside would have any effect or just break plastic.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to add what an issue like this I had and how I resolved it for any further onlookers.
When I would use any form of "power locks", either from the Keyfob or from the door panel buttons, the driver side door would stay stuck "locked". So much so that i had to use a slim jim to open it.
I found my solution was take out the door handle, and take apart the linkage arm on the handle, clean it up (little sand paper) and followed up with some lubricant. It's been over a year and it has not acted up again since.
Sorry for reviving an old thread. The title caught my eye due to my similar issue. Just wanted to share my resolution on a similar problem.

That was my thought as well. If the door is not as weatherproof as it ought to be, the mechanisms can get quite nasty, and jam up. I had a Ford at one time that the weatherstrips against the windows were actually missing, and lock solenoids would only last a few weeks until I figured out how to drape them with fairly heavy plastic film as an umbrella. With the locks and rods, a little cleaning/lubing works wonders. Since the OP is still at a count of ONE post, he probably hasn't gotten anything useful from us...

I will second this. Both my front doors had similar experiences. The rivers side recently did it. I got lucky and just lubed it and fine ever since. That passenger side involved my sawzall as I mentioned above. These are tenty year old cars I will ad so...
