The 95 Aurora was shifted smoothly and no symptoms of hard shift or anything like that.
In June, I made a bit longer trip to Cleveland area (from Bethlehem, PA). During couple days in OH, I noticed a whining noise when shifted from 2nd to 3rd..
The car still drive normal and the ATF at this point look red and smell normal & at normal level.
Fast forwarding...
In Aug 2 (Friday), I took the 95 to Shomakin PA and coal region areas... the car again behaved normal but on my way back to PA; the car started limping downshift then stuck in 3rd gear; I stop the car on the highway, the check engine light was on for catalytic converter low flows... (but I don’t have the proper code). I managed to clear the code; linp back home at 5k rpm (no joke and not fun) and made back to Allentown which then I slided the car back home.
Did I already killed the 4T80-E trans in this process?
Now, ATF is dark (really dark) and the car only move when I rev her up to 5k rpm ...
Reversing seem to be the only functioning gear at the moment...
Due to lack of proper tools; I turkey baster 2 gallons of ATF and replenished with fresh one.... At one point i made a messed (probably over filled during the attempted) the ATF was over flow from the refilled cap (cap opened)...
As typing; the car has been sitting since Aug 2; && the ATF is at proper levels...
Will open the bottom pan, service the trans, replacing scavenger filters at this point will save this car?
As of now the whining from trans shown at idle in park as well!!
Any input is greatly appreciated!
I got a quote today:
$209 for services and replace the filters
$1100++ + tax in labor to put in my remanufacturef tran (i saw on rockauto)
$3495 to rebuilds my transmission
